Best ( cheapest) place for tyres

Featured Replies

Hi I'm after some tyres, 205/55 - 16 any ideas for good Internet place for retro fit after ? Online discount or similar

blackcircles.co.uk

I generally use the following sites to buy tyres, then get them fitted locally for about a tenner a corner:

www.blackcircles.co.uk

www.my-tyres.co.uk

www.etyres.co.uk

www.tyre-shopper.co.uk

Best bet is just to Google for tyres and try a few sites out, particularly if you know what tyre you want.

Always used camskill. Tyretraders are cheap to.

Hi I've checked loads and my tyres seem to be cheapest for hankook ventus prime 2 k115 w(94) these seem like good tyres

Do try local independant tyre places. Generally you can haggle on price. They are there if you need help at some point too which online retails will not be. My local independant here in SW Scotland (Stewartry Tyres) is comparible if not better on price than online places. Have also been good when swapping from summer to winter tyres in that there was no charge at all.

Depends what brand. The usual national chains have some good deals at the moment.

+1 ON LOCAL. But I don't go for exotic tyres.I've done 50k in 5 years. I don't mind changing them for wear. Last car I had had origonals on ,and I had to change all 4 becasue of cracks in the tread. More interested in safety, which makes me wonder about the origonals, which were the lowest speed rating out, and susceptical to guley damage.Nationals -can you trust them ?I've had van tyres fitted with the wrong ( too high ) pressure ,causing the van to be unstablle. We also inherited a van ,with ABS problems .Turned out same national had fitted it . Another ( not national , but with a lot of branches) ,fitted fronts to Furby, referring to the torque chart .It said 120 FTLB.Had to pul them up with reference to user manual at 120 NM.

Another online place to try is tyremen - good prices and quick delivery.

One of my locals (only one mind) actually charges cost price for the tyres, he puts no mark up on them and he'll order in whatever you want. Fitting is very reasonable at something like £10-12.50 a corner too. But even with such a great offer, he's only cheaper than the best online sites by a couple of quid on the actual tyres.

I seem to alternate between Protyre and Event Tyres - both supply cheap tyres (with deals for buying 2 or more) and their mobile fitters are excellent and come to the work car park to fit them...

Chris

susceptical to guley damage.

This sounds mighty painful!

I have had excellent service and price from my tyres Seb.

so how does he make any profit?

I use the web for a price comparison, but generally use a local place, and they get within a pound or two of online.

Labour only. If he charges £12.50 a corner, £50 for fitting 4 tyres and it will only be 15 minutes work probably. Costs only a couple of weights and that slime around the rim to ease the tyre on (potentially a valve or two) - When I take tyres to my local, I take the wheels as well, so there is no wheel removal & fitting for them to do. I generally get charged a fiver a corner if I drop off wheels & tyres to be mated together.

There's love tyres aswell they're cheap

Labour only.

You got it! Only way to compete with the online retailers these days me thinks, unless you're a high street chain. It is a fully fledged garage as well, so the tyres side of things probably nets his extra customers for that too. Cannot find anywhere online cheaper for the tyres, and on the sites that offer fitting it comes in at about the same price - difference is though with him being local and a few peeps I know using him previously, I know who I am dealing with rather than being left in the lap of the Gods.

Like others I wanted to give it to a local company and I emailed two asking how much they could supply 2 Goodyear Eagle F1 2's for. No reply....

Camskill for me.

I get a price from Blackcircles, and then negotiate with the local fitter thay use. He always under cuts them!

My local HiQ are pretty good for tyres and fitting. Got Uniroyal RainExperts for my parents Swift and beat online by a good margin and included fitting. Didn't even haggle. Think what I'll be doing with the vRS though is getting the wheels rotated at next service then buy 4 online and get them to fit them once they wear out. That way if they mark them they can replace them.
