Hello,

Had my Furbie since March 2010 and in June 2011 its aircon ceased to work, took it to Garage and they found a leak at the expansion bottle, and regassed it. It has now started hissing again (mid feb) and when i took my car in for service i mentioned it.

They said they would take it in for 2 days to look at the aircon again and regas it but if there is no leak there gonna charge me £60. Goes in on Wednesday but before it goes in any pointers on where i should look for the aircon components to see if i can spot any evidance of a leak as i really cant afford £60 at the moment.

It wierd too as doesnt seam to hiss all the time but i am putting this down to the difference from when its heating and when its cooling the cabin.

Edit. Engine is a 1.9 TDI (dunno if thats important :p)

very hard to detect a leak to the naked eye.usualy the garage inject a yellow die in the system and check for leaks using a uv light.

Take it to the dealer. A friend with an Octavia had a similar symptom. Initially it showed up as a loss of pressure in the system. Further investigation showed damage to the compressor and it was replaced along with the condenser under a 'directive' that if the compressor was replaced the condenser should be too. A known fault maybe?
