Better fuel economy with Redex

Featured Replies

I run a Fabia3 1.9 TDi 105 which I'm now using with Redex added to the fuel. It allows me to get a good 5mpg increase in fuel consumption on local runs and more on longer journeys. I always drive with the mpg display on and before I used Redex, it was not as easy as it is now to increase the mpg figure by lifting my foot off the accelerator.

The other tip I have is that if you are on a slight gradient or just building up speed from the start position, I find that if you accelerate hard briefly to build up to a good running speed, and afterwards lift off the accelerator as much as possible without losing speed, you can get a better mpg than just being light on the accelerator all the time.

Sometimes I will accelerate quickly just for the fun of it - I even got a surprised look from a lady driver in an Audi TT when accelerating from the lights a while back. But most of the time, I am careful and get an average 45 mpg. The acceleration can be a bit jerky though, especially when accelerating from a standing start, so I'm trying to convince myself to invest in one those very tempting looking Chip Express boxes - they are a little pricey though.

Hi and welcome aboard.
