Hole in seat of 59 plate approved used Skoda, advice needed

Featured Replies

Hi

I bought a Skoda Superb 59 reg with 30,000 miles sight unseen from Simpsons Skoda as they are 250 miles from where I live. I was assured it was in good condition and that there were no rips or holes in the seats. When they delivered it to me I discovered there was what looks like a cigarette burn on the front backrest of the drivers seat. I have spoken to them and they said they would get back to me about it though hinted that it would be the patch up type repair. I have done some research and many people seem to suggest that these type of repairs on a high traffic area are only temporary and rarely invisible and that a coach repairer is the best long term option (i.e replacing the whole panel).

I was initially concerned that it was a smokers car but a smoker friend says it doesn't show the tell tale signs or smells and that the height of the hole right at the top of the backrest would suggest it was something catching on the seat rather than a cigarette.

I think I should demand that they get it fixed properly (i.e a new panel) rather than a patch up job which are never invisible. I like the car otherwise but I feel that Simpsons have taken the mick not telling me about the hole.

I know they will want to do the £50 fix instead of the £200 one but I think that I should insist on the proper fix. What do you think? I still have 28 days to exchange the car on the approved used scheme if they refuse to budge but I do like the car and would be happy to keep it if the seat is properly fixed.

Thanks for your help

The car should be as described or your quite within your rights to reject it.

I'm assuming you did not see the car before it was delivered?

Did you pay any of the balance (even deposit) with a credit card?

Unfortunately not. I don't know why, I usually do. I do love the car though and one surprise was it has parking sensors which they said it didn't (they obviously don't check their cars that well despite all the approved used, we check it all over, bull). Still I think they should repair it properly rather than a quick fix, will speak to them on Monday and see what they say. Thanks for your advice. To be fair to them they haven't had a chance to rectify it yet so I'll see what they offer.

Ive seen the patch up repairs and I think you will be surprised. If done corre tly you would never know.
