Accelerate, accelerate, accel... oh no!

Just had to abort my overtaking manoeuvre half-way through because of being matched for acceleration by a Touareg. But then again, it was the 5 litre V10 TDI, so with over 300 bhp and 550 lb/ft, perhaps it should have beaten me fair and square! Maybe it was running an auto 'box or something...

All the same, it was one rapid 4x4, and I think if I were a hairdresser or a suburban mother of school-age children *just kidding*, I'd consider saving up for one. Although having said that, most Porsche Cayennes (except the Turbo, which I bet is REALLY fast!) cost less, so maybe it ain't such a smart proposition.

So I've put it to the vote!

The MD at work has just had one of them

its good for somthing like 160mph i think he said

but his off road tyres can only go up to 110

That sounds nice and safe then

Gone for the touareg because

1) I like them!

2) The porsche is plain ugly (though someone is doing a chopped version)

Porsches should be porsches not stilt walkers :D

Cayenne for me. The looks are Quirky and the engine note on full chat is Fantastic, very similar to the Audi RS series sound.

touareg because of it's diesel engine. Though if you was going for petrol I'd go for the porker

I think I'd go for the Cayenne - but it would have to be a Turbo so at least it performs like it should.

I though it looked odd when it was launched but it has grown on me - a black one drives around the estate most mornings after dropping off at the...nursery school...and it looks good. A bit Footballers Wives though!

I raced one in my old E30 M3 once. I just managed to squeeze by @ 7000rpm in 4th. They are very rapid indeed.....

I have driven both, and i think the Porsche is only a tiny bit better as a car. Then there is the Touareg a capeable machine, with a sunroof that is far too small and an engine that is obscene, and could pull a house down.

But just listen to the porsche. What a noise !

I have to vote for the Cayenne - because I designed the prototype sunroof assembly production system.

If I wasn't biased it'd be the VW

I voted the toe-rag beacuse its stunning inside and great to go off road in. It just swallows up everything and it accelerates like an electric car on steroids. We got taken out in the V10 diesel at the motor show last year and it was the best off roader on the circuit. Also the driver of it who was unbiast and drives literally every car - think he was a merc test driver, said that the toe-rag was better than the cayene but there was very little in it.

If the porsche was air cooled still i would vote for it ;)

I'd go for the Cayenne, at launch I thought it was ugly but now I quite like it. But it'd have to be the turbo upgrade with a 0-60 of just under 4.9 secs, top speed of 167mph and 500bhp or a gemballa GT700 which is 700bhp but not sure on speed.

i was told and heard that they are based on the same chassis.

In regards to the two, quite a tough one. the sound of a v8 hmmm, but drinks like a horse and the power of the diesel engine.

Im a bit traditional but dont you think its bit daft to get a porsche and its a 4x4 instead of the 911s.

I presume the VW is going to be cheaper than the Porsche?

Anyways, Touraeg for me

They actually cost about the same, which is why I ended up starting the poll with a vote for the Cayenne. I'd always wondered if there was a bit of 'badge engineering' going on with the Cayenne - looks like my suspicions were correct!

Porsche Cayenne S V8 tiptronic is

It's a bit close at the moment poll wise !

TBH I also understood they were the same car/different guise.Just a question of badge/looks

I'd prefer the Cayenne turbo over either of them, but it's a lot more expensive. The V10 TDI is stupidly thirsty, and with diesel being more expensive than petrol, it defeats the objective of buying a diesel! You'd have to really need the torque to want it.

I think diesel choice as the economy choice has gone out the window.I think people(well me :o ) are buying on how the engine performs and how it delivers.Slightly off topic but seeing people in massive diesel mercedes etc I used to think you tight git, you're loaded ,why have diesel.I know why now! :D

It would have to be the Toe rag for me, I've not been in something as ugly as the Cayennbe since I was on holiday last year ;)
