boost presure

Featured Replies

Hi i have fitted a boost gauge today to my VRS estate 04 and if its right i'm getting about 8 psi.

I have search for this but cant seem to get the aswer i'm looking for,

What i want to do is raise the boost presure a little bit So how can i do this????

Is this only do by remap or can i adjust it my self just a bit?????

I know it should be 10 psi 180 bhp ???? In the old days on a RS turbo you could put a bleed vavle in or a stronger actuator or wind it up???

Thanks

If it's a standard car not remapped then it should peak at 10psi as you say. I would then assume there's something wrong with it like a vac leak or boost hose leak. Either that or your boost gauge is a bit out.

The VAG 1.8Ts are more complicated than old turbo cars like the Ford RS's or Renault 5s, the boost is fully controlled by the ECU so it can fuel appropriately as well. So yep a remap is the best way to go... but do some investigation on your car first (e.g. fault code scan) and make sure it's in tip top condition before a remap.

Thanks for that, It does peak at 10 psi but then drop to 8-9 psi but i put it down to the gauge as it a cheapy off ebay.

Looks like i'll go for a remap but want to get the exhaust done first as you all know the downpipe is so small so was going to get a decat pipe then cut a cat in to it for the mot as i dont want to change exhaust every year.

So if i done this would i get more than 210 bhp as they say on the net??

I have finally fitted my gauge yesterday, mine seems to peak at 12 psi, then drop and hold 10 psi all the way up to 6500rpm. so I am right in guessing mine is standard then?

I wish mine did, it peeks at about 0.8 psi and drops to about 0.6 and keeps on dropping to about 0.5 as the revs build up to the red line any ideas what I should look for and where?

A better boost gauge if it pulls well lol

do you mean 8 psi or 0.8 bar?

Hi Dave yeh it 0.8 bar

Hi Dave yeh it 0.8 bar

if you look on here you wont be too disappointed. converter caluclator...... but i would say check for a leak somewhere, but sure the techie guys on here will know more.

Hope that helps you.

Many thanks Dave fingers crossed somebody will read this post and give some good pointers into what maybe wrong

Do you have access to vcds/vcds lite at all? or access to it. Might be worth seeing if you have any codes coming up, that might help point you in the right direction.... also if you know someone with full vcds then they could do a run with it reading figures and see what it's actually doing, then u will get a true reflection of what boost you are producing :sun:

With them being little turbos wouldnt it be comon for them to die off anyway, unlike a ihi or garret which just keeps building ???

I remember seeing a tolling road for a ihi and it was as close as 2 big ticks lol :D

Pass mate, not sure, only had one other turbo motor and that had two, which just kept building too. Might have had something to do with the 1mil mig tips down boost pipes and remap. :bandit: who needs a boost controller, just back to boost up permanently

Spot on Lloyd,

Everyone bangs on about getting high bhp’s from the K03s.... reality is they are only good for 235-240 tops.....However a sensibly setup K03s can be a foooking rapid tool, a well mapped stage 2 vRS can mix it with a IHIvf34 or gt28....up until you get a good stretch of open road then it's goodbye for sure as it is just in a different league once wound up.

IHI's & gt28 Garrett’s pull back a little at the top too (depending obviously on how aggressive the boost is dialled in), to give a comparison my gtx30 in its current setup will hold 31/32psi from 3750rpm up until just under 8000rpm...

Steve, I think you're comparing a GT2860RS on a stock block to your GTX30 on a modded block ;)

Yes, gt2860..

Steve

Hehe that car of yours is fooking nuts steve :)

I'd love a ihi or bigger

Wallet says noooooo :(

I have a a OBD2 plug and cable Dave with software pcms scan which picks up the fault codes. I have the dreaded 2nd air flow code that lights up the engine managment and I use this software to turn the light off but as for reading any codes thats the only code it brings up. Other than that car seems healthy enough. I have talked before about getting a remap but to scared to do so just incase I open a big can of worms for my wallet with components starting to fail, ie turbo, clutch, hoses I just dont know what to do but would like to get more bhp out of her
