Impossibolt issues. Can't get battery out of SDI

Featured Replies

As per title,

I need to swap out the battery on our SDI before it goes in for accident repair work.

(Long long story...)

Trouble is that over time the damn bolt has corroded and a 13mm socket is just turning

round on it. However it's not far enough gone for me to tap a 12mm socket onto it.

I've wd40'd it and I have long extension bars for my ratchet. I've heard of a different

type of socket (Snap on?) that uses the flats of a nut rather than the corners to move it.

But I don't want to have buy a whole new socket set just to undo one nut.

Any way of getting a adjustable spanner on there? It's such a difficult area to access.

Thanks for your help.

Can you get a stud extractor to fit around the mangled bolt head ?

DB.

It's a flank drive socket that would be best I really hate most sockets as if your not on the head square your just going to chew it up. Will a 1/2 inch socket fit on as it's in between 12 and 13mm

Wasn't there some sort of variable socket ( by someone like JML), that adapted to the nut size ?

Just do a quick search for multifit socket on eBay and there are quite a few. Don't know if they're any good mind...

Thanks for the suggestions folks, failing that I'll have to take the headlight out so I

can get a spanner onto it. Spoke to brisky member Jars this morning and he has an imperial socket set

so I'll give the half inch socket a try first.
