Exhaust L&K Estate

Featured Replies

Afternoon all,

The hanger on the back of the back box has rusted off and now the middle section a couple of foot behind the cat has split in half :(

What should I expect a garage to charge to fix/replace this?

Not sure if it can be sleeved and welded or if I need as new one, i'm pretty sure cats arent cheap!

Any help/opinions appreciated,

Thanks

James

Diesel or petrol? If diesel then consider a decat... helps performance and not necessary for diesel MOTs (only tested for smoke).

vRS backbox fits a treat if you want something sportier looking.

Won't you have to cut the bumper to do that though

Yeh but easy to cut, all the rear bumpers are the same, just that that the Vrs have the but out lol

Thanks for the replies.

Its a diesel, tdi 130bhp, much the same as yours Vlad, by the looks of your signature.

Is the decat usually just a pipe or a full exhaust? I've never seen the point of cats even on petrols, you have to get them really hot to make them work properly, so they are useless on short journeys.

Anyone have an idea on prices or websites I can visit for an idea, cats are expensive, so hopefully a decat one is much cheaper(although I'm probably wrong, less is usually more with these things!)

With my landrovers, this was so much easier, could just roll under with a spanner, take it off, get it on the bench, get someone with some skills to weld a flexi coupler or a band on and then bobs your mothers brother! Probably still can with this, but need a ramp, and more precision than I could ever muster!

Thanks again

James

Hi James, car snap! :giggle:

The decat can either be just the pipe with a reducer (£170 from Milltek) or a full system. The cat area causes the biggest restriction, so may just be worth getting the decat fitted to standard system.

If it helps, it's not just the decat for £170- it's quite a large amount of pipeage. And yes, ramps are essential- it's slightly claustrophobic under there!

Excellent thanks for that.

Pity I've just bought myself a new computer, there was me thinking extra couple of quid in the old banko, I'll treat myself, then the exhaust falls off! Might have to get the local garage to shore it up until I can scrape some pennies together!

I'd like the full exhaust, but I can see that being not much change out of a monkey :(

James

It's £380 dead for the full system, as I recall...

Don't you have to add there downpipe too? That looks like the price for the cat back, so no downpipe.

Or am I looking at prices that are skyhigh! or getting the wrong end of the stick.

thanks

Local garage has quoted £210 inc VAT fitted for a genuine backbox and centre pipe, plus all the sleeves and bits needed.

Does that sound ok?

Just waiting on Jabbasport to get back to me about what I would need in terms of downpipe to fit the Milltek decat.

Had to just get it done at the local garage in the end. £210 fitted and car picked up from my place of work...Until a phone call in the early afternoon, turns out the cat pipe was split in a place that there wasn't meant to be a split, and they would have to hack apart the new bits to fit the old bits, and would cost a lot for their time and welding etc. So new cat was needed.

Total bill £365 inc vat, inc fitting, inc pick up and delivery. All genuine Skoda parts. Pay on invoice, so bit of time to gather the pennies!

Oh well, at least I'm not driving a tractor anymore, or losing my sanity from the noise on my 35mile commute!

If only I had not bought that computer, I could have wandered to Jabba in Crowland and had a de-cat done. Live and learn!
