A Tidal Wave

Featured Replies

swept over the bonnet & up the windscreen of my Y reg L&K on Tuesday 3 April 2012. Driving briskly along a country lane in the :rain: I hit a large puddle & whoosh. Car seemed ok. Later stopped for a coffee; car would not fire at first pull. Even when I've been away for a couple of weeks it always starts first pull. Strange I thought. 15 miles later the "Testing engine electronics" light came on & stayed on. Now when I switch the engine on the "Testing.." light does not go off. Is it ok to drive normally for a few days ? What might be the problem & how does one rectify it? Has water got into some "black box"? Does a Black box problem mean selling my house ?

Get the car scanned. The fault codes will give you a starting point.

Thanks

Is it ok to drive normally for a few days ?

Where/who scan? Dealer, Independent Garage, Car electronics firm ?

there is a map of the users on this site that have vagcom and are happy to scan for beer tokens. I will see if I can find the link :D

It's probably OK to drive on the basis you have driven it since, so you can rule out the real car killers such as water in the cylinders. It may let you down, but if anything a hot engine will help dry things out.

A dealer or a VW specialist can scan the car. If you are lucky, you may find a fellow Briskodian who will scan the car for you. see http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/74720-list-of-vag-com-diagnostic-system-vcds-owners/
