Airbag memory controller fault

Featured Replies

I used my new vag-com tool today and it came up with quite a few codes. The most pressing one because i need to Mot the car is the airbag light being on.

The tool came up saying that the memory controller for the airbag had a fault. How do i go about sorting this out now i know whats causing the issue?

Do i buy one from a scrapyard? Will one thats been in a car thats airbag has been deployed work? Can i fix the problem? Is there somewhere i can buy one new?

Sorry for all the questions

What was the fault code? 6335 internal memory error? If it was that one and it doesn't clear, you'll need to replace the control unit. These controllers are one use only, so getting one from a car where the airbags have been deployed wont't be any good as it will have crash data permanently written to it. There are companies that can erase this data, but I'm sceptical as to whether the control unit will work as it should after this has been done and there's only one way you'll find out.

A good second hand one out of a vehicle where the airbags haven't been deployed should be OK, provided that it is the exact same part number and that it is coded correctly for your cars airbag/seatbelt configuration.

You can get a new one from a Skoda dealer, though you may not like the cost.

An airbag light is not currently a MOT fail, though it should be advised on the test.

I have been told from multiple sources that it is now a fail?

VAG-COM Version: Release 409.1-US

Control Module Part Number: 6Q0 909 605 H

Component and/or Version: 04 AIRBAG VW5 0004

Software Coding: 12340

Work Shop Code: WSC 13765

3 Faults Found:

65535 - Internal Control Module Memory Error

00-10 - - - Intermittent

00532 - Shareware Version. To Decode all DTCs

07-10 - Please Register/Activate - Intermittent

01299 - Shareware Version. To Decode all DTCs

62-10 - Please Register/Activate - Intermittent

Those are the faults i am getting with just the airbag system

Why don't you clear the intermittent faults and see what returns. As far as i'm aware an airbag light is not a failure at present, though it could be in the very near future. Next time I carry out a MOT test I'll have a look when entering the results to see if it's there as a fail.

I have taken the whole dash apart and i still cant find the airbag memory controller? Please help

Managed to get it out. What a lot of screws and effort. Thats going to be a bugger to put back together.

Now i am going to get one from a scrappy, can i just plug it in and let vcds re programme it or do i have to take it to a specialist.

Should i have taken any numbers from vcds off of the old unit?

Thanks guys, i really appreciate all your patience with this
