Palm GPS anyone?

Featured Replies

I have a Palm Tungsten T5 and a Palm GPS Navigator. I want to 'fit' them in the Fabia but it does look a mess of wires hanging over the dashboard. Also, the cigarette lighter plug is long and awkward with a wobbly adaptor for the T5.

Is anyone using this set up? How do you keep it tidy? Have you got any pikkies?

I've got tomtom3 wired GPS and a Palm T3 - unfortunately, it's wires all over the place rather than hidden-and-tidy!

The wire from the cradle to the GPS receiver folds back on itself nicely and tucks out of the way where the dash and windscreen meet. I extended the power cable length, so it still goes from the cig. lighter to the cradle, but it's not stretched at all, or particularly in the way (also easier to remove it from the car that way...)

Where do you have your PDA? I find it very convenient on the right, next to the column. Maybe the neatest connection would be an extension to the ciggy lighter with a small plug in the console. The bulky Palm charger could be put away under the dash. It sticks up like a sore thumb in the console. However, because the PDA location is so near the fuse box, it would be nice to 'hard wire' it there - soldering a cable to one end of a fuse, perhaps?

I'm using the standard tomtom windscreen mount - slightly off-centre towards the steering wheel, and angled towards me for better visibility... It's easy to glance at that way, without having to look "down", which would be the case if it were next to the head unit...?

Yes, that is the easiest if you are going to drape the power cables over the dashboard. I have the same mount. The reason I like it on the right is because it is discreet, doesn't obscure the view and has a darker surround, improving visibility. I can also stabilise it against wobbling a bit better. I couldn't find any suitable location lower down anyway.

I am looking into long usb synch cables with power and adapters as a means of getting power to it.
