Fabia TDI review !!

Featured Replies

Well. Last night i took my vRS in to have a new back box fitted, due to one of the brakets breaking off. In return i got a gold Fabia Elegance TDI estate with a smashed in front wing. :thumbdwn:

Not too bothered what i drove anyway, so i drove off down the road about 200 yards infact before the front number plate fell off this 05 fabia. I just slapped it in the front windscreen and carried on -lol.

Out of junctions i generally rely on the traction to stop any misbehaviour, however the level of traction is absolutly apauling. Further investigation extablished that the brakes were dire, and obviously the suspension was softer, although i was still impressed with how firm it remained around round abouts etc. The 100 hp PD is obviously not as quick as an vRS but works well, however it is noisy, and i mean really noisy !!

Other than that i had a few other niggles, but generally no one would compare the 2 cars, but for my dosh i might consider an alternative

That's interesting! The vRS I drove I thought lacked traction, had shocking brakes and was very noisy!:rofl::rofl:

Maybe something to do with the demo cars being stood around and not driven as much as our own cars?

I'd agree about the suspension being softer and if you venture to license-losing speeds you notice that the car starts to undulate quite unnervingly so one of the first mods I did was to uprate the suspension! :D As for power, the vRS didn't seem any quicker than mine (with tuning box) although power delivery was bit more brutal but tailed off quicker..... maybe I should take it out again and stick the tuning box on it :D

PD100 was pretty nippy, suspension was too 'relaxed' for serious speeds ;) - brakes were good on mine, they actually felt better than the ones on my vRS initially (now I've sorted mine out by braking them in it's way better on the vRS).

Engine/gearbox combination in the PD100 seemed to work well, as it's less peaky compared to the tuning of the vRS imho - pulled more consistently but less all the way through rev range.

My vRS is loosening up now and it revs more freely, nearly done 2.5k (few more days) and the mpg is still nudging upward.

I'd say a tuning box on the PD100 will make it close to a PD130 standard, with less tailing off as you say ScoobyChris ;) - I bet the PD130 with the same tuning box would make you have an even bigger grin on your face though :D
