Competition time... spot the Yeti (and me!)

Featured Replies

On the last off road day I attended there was a Defender driving around doing some filming. I didnt think anymore of it until last night when I got tagged into the video upload of a friend that spotted it online! Its a shame they appear to have removed any trace of the Yeti doing the good stuff but if you dont blink through the whole thing you should be able to spot it three times... :) Challenge set!

Yippee! found it...... Yeti in shot at about 02.16 & 02.21 & 03.36. What's the prize!!!!?

I'm not totally sure if Graham will be too impressed with hazard entry speeds in some places, but a good video nonetheless produced to show the excitement of the off-roading scene.

I remember when I was a kid they had a program on TV with the Army versus the AA or RAC racing each other across a course and the Steyr Puch Haflingers used to wop the Land Rovers.......

Probably because they are far, far better for rough offroading. (and I am a long time Land Rover fan!)

Agreed, its not one of the best videos Ive seen (that honour goes to the Jeep club, I can post a link if anyone is interested?) and they do tend to be a bit gung ho for my liking; full speed through the water, straight into deep mud at high speed and generally very little interest in getting out and looking at the terrain ahead before attacking it!

Well done regarding the spots though... prize wise, have a virtual beer on me! ;)

.... waits for someone to mention winching with no gloves on.

(big no-no)

Yes, I'd like to see the jeep link. :)

And the chap who appears to be pulling the L/R up a slope himself using the winch cable! He'd be in trouble if the vehicle rolls back, or indeed suddenly gets traction with him so close & looking the other way.

But I guess it's all done for effect!

At work, so no video viewing allowed, so you'll have to wait until this evening!!

I'm sure this one will have the health and safety crew dropping their clipboards to the floor also but I love this forth sheer reason that it's a great bit of editing and production from a guy with a dslr and a home made dolly. This isn't his profession but I think the results are top drawer. Enjoy...

Don't worry about the winch cable - it's plasma rope.

Soft to the feel, floats, drops dead when it breaks with no recoil, it's about as good as it gets with winch cable. I've had some on my SJ for many years now, and many LRs have been pulled out of ditches/rolled back onto their wheels with it as well :giggle:

LRs - pah :whew:

Yes, I used to run plasma rope on the front and back winches of my 90 pickup challenge truck.

Not wearing gloves was still a warning on any event I did though.

My old trucks: TOP 90 was more standard but TAZ90 had portal axles from a Volvo C303 military truck. :)

BF is right, plasma may be very good but you should still wear gloves with it, as you never know what it may have picked up!

And as for the first video; well if they came for a 4x4RW assessment they'd probably fail! However we'd teach them the correct way to do things! :giggle: :giggle:

No, not usually. :)

I had TOP90 for quite a while and it was a good allrounder, but TAZ90 was built specifically for winch challenge events later on.

With 35" tyres and portal axles giving an extra 6" of diff clearance it would to breeze where other well prepared Defenders had trouble.

That picture was taken by a guy who worked on Land Rover Enthusiast magazine (now sadly merged with another mag) as they did a feature on TAZ90 back in (about) 2006 at Tixover offroad site. It was one of the first few UK trucks with portal axles.

He very kindly sent me big copies of the picture so I could get them blown up and put on the wall. :)

When the trucks went I kept the reg numbers...
