Electric windows not working what next

Featured Replies

My electric windows have not been working and i have MOT coming up soon here is a list of what i have checked so far.

  1. The electric windows work when there is a period of warm weather
  2. The door shuts the wiring is ok noting has worn away.
  3. The fuses all checked and working ok
  4. Checked inside the door car and noting seems broken as the windows do work when the weather drys up a bit.
  5. There motor has no power going to it.
  6. none of the carpets in the car are damp
  7. The switches worked when the weather dried up

I havent checked the control unit and i am wondering if this is what is causing the problem

The connector for the door wiring loom on the passenger side may be full of water - with ours it kindly opened the windows & unlocked the doors - which wa a worry!

Cheers where abouts on the passenger side is this thanks ive had trouble finding it

Hi

Mine are iffy too. Don't like to wind them down when it's wet in case they won't go up again.

I was going to try some switch cleaner spray in the switches but not sure how to get them out. Haynes say there's a special tool that goes in the slot under the arm rest and that you can use a bent screwdriver just as well to release the switch panel but they don't show a photo so not much help.

Anyone know what the tool looks like and how to release the switch panel to give them a clean?

(Sorry, don't know where the wiring connector on the passenger side is.)

I just used a big-ish flat head screw driver for the switch cover. A nice thin but wide head is what you need. Maybe a cloth between that and the plastic bits for a bit of protection.

Don't be afraid to give it a bit, it's fairly robust... My window switch was an arse to get out!

No idea on the wiring connector though, sorry dude
