In march 2012 the oil cooler leaked in my 2008 octavia vrs diesel due to the wiring loom rubbing off the aluminium oil cooler in the front of the engine. i highlighted this with skoda at the time as a manufacturing fault but recieved no satisfaction. I warned a friend of mine of the problem as he has the exact same car and yesterday he tells me that it was happening his as well and only for me warning him he could have had a serious and costly problem. this in my opinion has to be a manufacturing fault. please check it out if you have similiar car and let me know. skoda ireland are having none of it after again informing them of it today.

Hi, I think that I have had the same problem in my 2008, Skoda Ocatvia vRS Diesel. I am still waiting for a diagnosis. This happened in August 4 months after I bought the car. It was 1 month out of warrenty however I have got the dealership to pay half towards the repair.

What makes you think that it's a manufacturing fault. You can contact your local trading standards and refer the case to them and they will investigate it for free.

Any pictures to help those of us with the same car to see where we are supposed to be checking?

I believe that the cooler is situated inside the radiator. To check for the problem, simple check your header coolant bottle and see if there is any evidence of oil residue in the bottle or on the cap.

But by then it's too late.

Is it not possible to check the wiring loom that is rubbing / wearing in an effort to check the cause rather than the symptoms?

The oil cooler is mounted under the oil filter housing not in the radiator.

If the repair was carried out at a dealer they should have filed a DISS report to Skoda. They monitor reports and if it trends then a bulletin or recall would be formulated from the information sent back.

What is a DISS report. Should the garage repairing my car submit this report to Skoda.

Hi All,

Good news, got the car sorted at the cost of 975.00, it turned out that it was the oil cooler that was leaking. The garage pressure tested the oil cooler and the leak showed up. However the car wouldn't start either and it turned out that injector No.1 had blown too.

So all together it has 1, injector, 1, wiring loom, 1 oil cooler, 4 coolant pipes, cooling system flush, degreaser, coolant / atifreeze and VW recomennded oil changed, plus labour hence nearly a grand.

The car now runs like brand new. Hopefully no more problems but I am considering changing to a VW Golf Mark 6, TDi. Any thoughts on VW''s as compared to Skoda's.
