Sweet thanks :-) will keep an eye on your progress

One of the guys off here used to have a Forge one which was for the 1.8T on his 110 TDI with a hybrid turbo. Sold it to one of my local VRS owners after his turbo went bang. His username was Cawmere but I think now its BigBossMan. Should be able to advise if its a straight fit

Thanks, had a little search but the only bigbossman hasn't been on since 2010 :-(

How have you got on with the SS cooler Vlad?

Not at all yet! Waiting for a couple of Mandays in a row (it's when my OH is at work so I get Man Time...).

Test fit first, then proper fit with custom pipes. Reckon I'll be all sorted by early July.

Did you have any luck with the Intercooler Vlad?

No, I sold the bloody thing! Pipework was set to be a further £210 on top, and I went a little bit ashen when I found that out. :(

However- I've gone for an uprated SMIC, and with a little help from a certain someone on here, it should be fitted in the fairly near future! Will let you know how that works out. I've removed the stupid trumpet that restricts the airflow, and will be drilling holes in the wheelarch liner to allow full airflow from front to back. Should improve things slightly.

Sounds good.

What one did you go for?

Just by looking at it, it looks like the eBay special that the MkIV boys love a little bit too much. Made by a company called Turborevs. It's much larger than the standard SMIC, and the build quality is definitely much better. The core is about 4-5" deep, which is awesome, and then the overall proportions are about an extra 25% on the standard SMIC. Still fits in the right place, BUT on the TDis the mounting needs slight adjustment and there's some extra pipework needed.

However, I'll be covering that once I've sorted a couple of things out. Not car stuff, just logistics. Will keep you posted if you so wish...

Oh, and another reason I wasn't keen on the SeatSport- it's, if anything, too bloody big! Pokes out of the bottom of the front bumper... which leaves it slightly susceptible to bangs, scrapes, rocks... which leads to boost leaks, smashed cores, etc. The Forge one is slightly smaller, but is a better fit. However, it's also major £££.

From what I've seen so far, the trick is to grab an intercooler that minimises the amount of pipework between the IC and the intake. Less pipework > less lag > more accessible performance. Standard single pass intercoolers can be a bitch for that simply because you need to route the pipework pretty much round the entire engine, which is a ****take. Twinpass (i.e. SeatSport & the big daddy Forge one) allow you to keep a very similar amount of piping to the standard SMIC, so boost is still where you expect it... it just holds on for longer and, from what I've read and experienced, smooths out the power delivery somewhat.

So yeah... I'll keep you posted on the SMIC experience!
