Front and Rear speakers for VRS

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Been doing some reading up on speaker sizes for the VRS as was looking originally for a sub however thought i might compromise by getting a good enough head unit with speakers. I was originally looking for Pioneer speakers however would like matching components for front and rear in which only left me with the Vibe Liteair. I'm not sure if they are any good and would appreciate feedback.

Well got the car for another 2 years, probs more... If the sounds is good i could be willing to stretch. Drive the car all the time and nothing like a bit of music

I agree!! In my honest opinion I would not bother replacing the rears; the vibe lite's have in-line crossovers which means a bit of installation as you will need to replace the tweets, and find somewhere to hide the crossover.

I would (or should I say "I am") replacing the fronts with http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product_m-focal-165vrs_p-24100.htm; expensive, but you will not need rears (other than for a bit of fill for rear passengers if you must). They are slim fit, and sound awesome. If you ever come to sell your vehicle they hold their price so well you will get most your money back for them. No matter what components you buy, they will never reproduce bass frequencies like a subwoofer (if that's your bag)

Yeah, i think i've been trying to kid myself. Had a sub in everycar and can't beat it, well long as it's balanced with the speakers... I tried that link but never worked, could you try again please? I'm in a dilema on what to do. Apparently the OEMS aren't bad when the headunit is changed but thought if i get good enough speakers it will give that little bit extra. Guess a sub on top is the only way

I can't get the link to work either!! Search for Focal Polyglass 165 VRS 16.5cm slim fits.....OEM speakers are actually ALRIGHT as it goes. The Focals would need a decent headunit AT LEAST (2ch amped would get the best out of them if matched correctly. If I were you, I'd get a decent RMS rated headunit, keep the OEMS up front and add a decent sub and amp and look at the components last (good thing with ICE is you can whip it all out before you sell your car!! Just a note if you upgrade the front speakers you will need additional speaker adaptors and IMO soundproofing to prevent vibration/loss of quality...starts getting expensive and if all you are after is sound for YOU (and not everyone in the street you are driving in) I'd go for headnit with a couple of pre-outs, monoblock amp and a subwoofer in the boot.....

Right thought ill post a little update. Have bought a new headunit today at a bargain price:

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_categoryId_237503_productId_774653_langId_-1?cm_mmc=Shopping-_-Google%20Product%20Search-_-In-Car%20Technology%2FCar%20Audio%20Clearance-_-Sony%20XAV60%20Double%20Din%20DVD%20Player&source=shopping

Also i bought a vibe 4 gauge wiring kit in which my friend will fit properly for me under the plastics at the weekend... I have already put the head unit in and have order the dual din facia plate as it looks very bare without.

My initial plans is to save up and first buy a Vibe blackair 12" integrated subwoofer. After a bit more saving i will be looking into have both the Vibe liteair front and rear components with some sound proofing. Im sure after this it should sound sweet. the Headunit has a built in 24bit DAC which adds to the quality

Apologies for the thread hijack, but I need some advice on solving a front speaker problem on my standard MK1 Fabia setup.

One of the front speakers has blown and makes an awful buzzing sound on bass frequencies. I'm looking for a set of speakers that are a little better than standard, up to £60 for the speakers, plus some more for the adapters. I'm not expecting miracles, but when my wife's Honda Jazz system is a million times better than my current situation, any improvement will be better.

I really want to keep the interior looking 100% standard, that includes the headunit, which I understand is the weakest link in the whole system. Is there a slightly better Skoda head unit that would fit? Not that really expensive Skoda MFD Sat-Nav jobbie, that I've seen for over £400 on eBay.

Can anyone recommend a reasonable front speaker upgrade?

Also how hard are replacement front speakers to fit? I'd rather pay some cash for someone to do it, than end up cocking it up, or it taking days.

Hi.

Just finished installing some components in the front. There isnt much room at all behind the speakers, forgot to measure how much though.

I took out some vibe s60's, the previous owner fitted them alongside the stock tweeters. They have a depth of 50 something cm. you couldnt get a speaker in there much deeper than 60cm i reckon without modding.

The vibe's weren't too bad actually after upgrading the head unit. I would have kept them if i hadnt already brought the rainbows.

I went for the slim rainbow 265 pro

http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/16699.html

Cant comment on the quality yet as i javnt wired the amp in yet.

These were the first speakers that i've replaced. The main woofer speaker was easy.

The tweeter was a bit more hassle. In the end i just wedged it in the hole behind the stock tweeter but had to bend a little bit of metal back to get it to fit in

I am on the same boat as you. I'm sure the front passenger speaker has blown as when the bass frequencies go up the crackle starts :/ If i were to offer advice i think it would be best to go on a car audio site and look at personal customer reviews on the items which stand out for you. And also go for slim fits as, as everybody has mentioned the size inside the door isn't big.

dany2010:

Yeah i looked at the depth of the liteairs and they are 45mm so should get away nicely. should hopefully be getting the front and back components as soon as i come into some money. Am selling my home Hi-Fi so this should fund the last few items.

I've been wanting to keep the same of all 1 brand. Vibe liteair where the only components in which i could find for 4" which is the reason for me going to use them for the front, i don't want differernt types of speakers at the front and back as worried it might clash. looks like i'm going for a full vibe set-up. Can't wait to see how it all goes and will post feedback on here. Will be running the speakers off the headunit as it's 52W x 4 however after time i'm sure ill amp the speakers as they seem to be high on the RMS Wattage and want them to level up with the sub...

With the head unit check the actual RMS output.....52W is deceiving as it will probably be chucking out less than half/a third RMS.....this is the output that counts....you will find your speakers will be rated in a similar way......lots advertise 250w max output, with an actual output of 100RMS or less. Don't get me wrong, the head unit will power the speakers better than the OEM, but what is important is to try and match your amp's RMS output (whether it's in your HU or separate amp) with that of your speakers...or won't get the best out your speakers) You'll be amazed at how much difference an amp will make....even a cheap used Alpine one off Ebay can be picked up for peanuts

IMO...

Forget about the rear speakers.

Fit good component speakers to the front. Pay attention to reviews, sensitivity and power requirements when selecting them.

Remember the Fabia's doors are pretty solid and aid in producing bass/mid-bass. i.e. You don't need to do a lot to them.

Fit an amp of 2x100+ driving the front speakers, ideally 2x150.

Drive the OEM rear speakers from the h/u as minor rear fill only.

With that lot, don't worry about h/u power ratings particularly, check for the best EQ possible. Ideally it'll allow for preset styles plus tweaking of them.

Yeah i know about RMS, my sub says it's 1600W however the true RMS power is 550w. the headunit is 52W x 4 RMS and has a 24bit DAC and good EQ ;)

Speakers have now been ordered along with adapters. Fingers crossed everything will be fitted next weekend. will be really interested to see how it all goes together

hello ,can you tell me i got otavia mk1, will speakers from gollf mk4 fit in doors at the front

Hi, i wouldn't have a clue tbh...

Youll be best using the search function under the Mk1 Octavia section...

If all fails then write a new post in Mk1 Octavia section regarding your query

Ok had a very long day yesterday trying to get all the components wired together.

To cut a long story short:

Managed to get the front door speakers fitted however left the tweeters out for the time being as the vibe ones were bigger than the OEM and had no chance of getting them inside the housing. Has anyone found a way of doing this? we probably could have mucked around doing it however time was against us due to a few delays being trips to the local halfords as wrong parts sent over the net being the front speaker adapters and the front dual din facia plate... The other concern in which i had was my friend didn;t seem eager to fit the component box either at the time, he just used the normaly wiring from the car with the adapters... Can someone please tell me that the component box that connects to speaker to the tweeter is their for a reason? i wasn't too happy when he decided to leave that part out :/.After we get some info on how to fit the tweeters i will make sure that when we get around to doing it, the component boxes will be fitted to...

Also i have the sub wired up which works great however when going through the sony headunit menu to change the sub levels, it doesn't work. I can't even select the subwoofer option as it is greyed out. I tried reseting the headunit to find the same thing again. Has anyone come across this before? The sub is connected via coaxial to a Y splitter into the sub out lead.

By component box I take it you mean the in-line crossover; it sends the correct frequencies to each speaker......yes you should fit it, I don't know if the stock speakers up front have crossovers (I assume they do) but IMHO you should fit the ones which match your speakers for sure....he probably didn't want to do it as it would mean concealing the cross-over somewehere) not sure where you can put it as haven't attempted it myself, but other cars I have installed it behind the door card behind the dash

ps re your sub is it powered or are you using an amp? Also, is it not a phono connection and not coaxial???

Oh MFG!

The crossovers (the dinky box things with the shiny terminals...) are required. You're likely to blow up the Vibe tweeters if you don't use them.

Ok so the sub issue is now sorted, turns out the heaunit has so many settings options, i takes a long time to find the right one...

With the crossover im hoping to fit these behind the doors, should be doing this along with the new tweeters next weekend however i'm still stuck on how to fit these... Are there any adapters in which you can purchase for the tweeters? the housing over the OEM is too small which im guessing will need to be broken off or something? Also as mentioned before the tweeters are a bit bigger as well..

Crossovers ^^^

For tweeters it's difficult. ideally mount "the mount" and then clip them in. If that's too bulky, I've heard of everything from hot glue/expoxy/double sided tape used to mount them.

Thanks for the pic, looks really good. Any difference with the soundproofing?

So far rattles seems ok, well apart from the passenger side door :/ gonna have a a closer look over the weekend to see if anythings loose/

Im guessing once the crossovers and tweeters are fitted to both the front and back, it's going to make a big noticeable difference?

After replacing the front and back speakers i could already tell a difference.

You can't beat a solidly mounted pair of good woofers fed by a BFO amp. I couldn't tell you about the sound proofing, I had amp plus speakers plus soundproofing all done at once. I assume it makes a minor difference.... When it's all done try "Bring me to life" by Evanescence or a Pachelbel's "canon" to test it. :)
