Slipping clutch

Featured Replies

Hi all

My clutch started to slip on the way to castle combe the other week.

I had a local garage fit a new clutch, the dmf was also buggered. I think the clutch kit came from Midland vw and was a sachs clutch.

Problem is the clutch is still slipping after 400miles, mostly in 3rd 4th and 5th. Would of thought it would of been worse in lower gears.

Car is a vrs on stage 1.

Any advice would be great

Cheers

G60 flywheel and VR6 clutch conversion

No he fitted new dmf and clutch. I didn't want any more vibes in cabin. Dog bone vibrates enough.

Was the crankshaft oil seal all ok, you might find it is weaping slighty and allowing oil onto the clutch.

Well I have a sold lightened and balanced G60 flywheel with VR6 uprated clutch kit and that had the same sliping in 3rd, 4th and 5th up to around 500 miles. Gradually from around 400 miles (funny enough) 3rd stopped then 4th and finnaly 5th. Not sure if this is common, but I guess new flywheel and clutch need bedding in like new brake disc and pads.

Anyway no slip now so happy.

If not that you may have as suggested oil contamination or the garage did not wipe clean the oil from the flywheel that is applied from manufactor prio to fitting.?

I have a DMF spare now.

Oh and i get no vibes in cabin...mind you car is solid as a rock with poly bushes all round so probably used to it. Dogbone is only vibey from initial bedding in unless yor engine/gearbox mounts are US as well as if you stiffen one area up this can transfer the vibes to another weaker area.

I have the G60 flywheel and VR6 clutch and also have both superpro dogbone bushs and yeah to start with vibs hurrendus but once bedded in i hardly notice anything and the car is so much nicer to drive as you dont need 2 feet to press clutch pedal like i did before. I also have the solid subframe bushs aswell now and its still nice to drive

Well been out on the south wales meet today, now done 600 miles since New clutch and still slips in 3rd 4th 5th. Clutch works if I give it the beans 5k plus rpm.

It now only slips between 2.5 and 4.5k rpm, suppose that's max torque.

Cheers all.

Did you bed the clutch in? You should of been taking it easy for the first 500 miles?

Think car will go back in on Mon 750 miles still slipping. If I use more than half throttle clutch will slip, motorway driving is difficult.

That's some major slipping... wouldn't be surprised if oil has got in there

The guy showed me the old clutch and it was dry no sign of oil but you never know.

Maybe he never cleaned new flywheel of oil

i had this after fitting a g60/vrs set up. did 8k like it and then changed for another vr6 clutch. still did it :( i had already repalced the slave clyinder so thought it had to be the master. changed that and it made a hell of a difference. the old master was sticking on release so not allowing the clutch to grip smoothly. only prob is that now the clutch has slipped it won;t bed back in 100% so get a small amount of random slip every now and again.

Well taken car back in today see what happens.

I hope master and slave cylinders ok.

The garage said they will change clutch again regardless.

Keep you all posted.

Just an update.

Car went in for 2nd new clutch, told them to put g60 flywheel vr6 clutch in.

What I don't understand is he had to change clutch master cylinder to a different type as it was now catching. Now the peddle is rather high, but no slippage at all.

Cheers
