Help with Polishing Pads

Featured Replies

Hi guys don,t know if anyone can help me here as iam very new to using car polishers.

I have just recieved in the post today my car polisher and it came with 5 additional polsihing pads of differnt colours and thickness. All are 6" diameter and have a 6" backing plate with velcro.

Blue - 50mm thick

White - 25mm thick

Pink/Red - 50mm thick

Yellow - 50mm thick

Black - 40mm thick

Also i have a 8" Lambswool pad and backing plate.

Why are they all different colurs and thicknesses? this is what i don,t understand eg: what i would use and what i would finish with etc as i don,t really want to mess this up.

I have long scratches on the car and bonnet which i want to polish out after sanding them with 1500/2000 wet and dry first.

So after sanding which of those would i need leading up to finishing/polishing?

Sorry to babble on about this but iam really in the dark about all this.I,m just used to old fashioned hand polishing etc.

My car has Metallic paintwork if that differs in the process.

Many thanks
