Subframe moved now no Steering?

Featured Replies

Hi

Got a major problem, I had a really annoying rattle from subframe, as it had been moved. So I pushed it back to original place and now I've got no steering, it's REALLY heavy!?

Any ideas?

No lights on dashboard. Or fluid anywhere :/

Blown fuse? Or possibly a damaged steering angle sensor?

Gonna drop frame off and loosen steering rack off and put it back in original place, got a feeling the subframe is pushing on the rack causing resistant.

Still no luck, no warning lights, and fuse is ok. I think the rack is being caught on something? As slight clunk when you force the steering.

Read the fault codes, check the pump, any noise from it at all when the wheel is turned? What about the flat fuses on the top of the battery box?

Bit late, but these codes came off it:

Address 44: Steering Assist Labels: 6Q0-423-156.lbl

2 Faults Found:
00566 - Steering Assistance Operation
           27-10 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent
01288 - Terminal 30; Steering Assist
           07-10 - Signal too Low - Intermittent

I read that the terminal 30 low signal issue can be caused by a duff electrical supply or a duff earth. However, the battery has definitely been replaced as it's an RAC branded battery. Also, monitoring block 002 in module 44 showed that Liam's PAS pump was using barely any current (4A at resting, and only went up to about 7, whereas my healthy PAS setup was 4A at resting and up to about 70 at low speed manouvreing). We took the bumper off and he cleaned the two earthing points on the chassis with a wire brush (there were two, one on top of the chassis leg and another mounted vertically just in front of the pump, both were a bit green and corroded so both got cleaned). Once that was done and it was back together, the PAS current peaked at around 20 (so improved, but not cured). Trouble was, as I was reversing the car back into place with difficulty, all of a sudden the TCS and ABS lights came on, and the PAS light was flashing. While it was doing this, the engine started to sound like it was missing (think coilpack gone on a petrol engine, that sort of sound). Weren't any codes on it after that, but it's definitely not looking too healthy...

Alright dude, I've tried another pump and that brought the steering light up? I took it for a drive and wasn't miss firing? But I had the battery on this time? So guessing that was the cause of the fault lights and miss firing? But still no steering. My mates coming down Tuesday to have a look if no hope then I'm not sure? Gonna have to trailer it to a specialist.

Has anyone checked the alternator signal wire or the voltage off the battery at idle?

I didn't check the battery voltage (should have done, but it didn't occur to me). The battery light comes on with the ignition and then goes out as normal though, whereas I believe a faulty alternator load wire stops the battery light from coming on at all?

Have you checked the angle sensor on the steering rack?
