just been to the garage to have a wheel bearing changed as thought it was grinding.

mechanic says gearbox is the issue, its ''whirring'' at low speeds up to about 40mph and its loudest when braking from 10mph ish.

hes quoted me £250 for a gearbox and £100 ish labour

i have a mk1 a3 tdi with a 5 speed box which looks like its the same, anyone know if it will fit??

also are the gear ratios the same?
