loss of power

Featured Replies

hello i have a 1.6 aee which has now had new head gasket and top end rebuilt but still not got any power could this be ecu or just a remap ?

The AEE is 75hp so it's never going to be a fast Octavia. Are you saying that it's lost power following the head rebuild?

Also a remap to a 1.6 non turbo petrol will not work.

well to say this car has been a pain to me is an understatement i got the car from a m8 and the head was gone so had it replaced then the car ran well till i went further afield then developed a loss of power on hills gradually it started to show oil in filler cap so i got a second hand lump heard running and all ok replaced my top end with this one and its worse also fitted a new clutch while it was in bits as needed it but to be fair i have come to like it so just want to get it right then start to enjoy it

I think you may be starting to answer your own question here, as I read in your last post - correct me if I am wrong here please, that you used the head from the used lump on your bottom end?.

You said the lump was heard running ok as one unit, then it would seem the factor here is you own bottom end, either rings/bores or a crankcase pressure buildup diluting the fuel mixture under load.

What sort of mileage is on your car now?.

I take it you have had the car scanned for codes and that nothing nasty is lurking there, and that the clutch is in good nick and not sliiping under load?.

When you put the two halves together, did you do a compression test?

This engine has a distributor and a single coil. Have you checked the rotor, distributor cap, plugs and throttle body?

Getting the car scanned as kentphil1 suggested is a must.

hi the car has only done 60 thousand miles it has a brand new clutch i did have it scanned and came back map sensor so replaced that but the only thing not cleared was basic settings not done ? yes i did use my original bottom end as the second hand one didn't fit my gearbox

ok so spent another few hours on it checking and changing throttle body dizzy and plugs also checked the tension on cam belt just to make sure now it seams like its lacking fuel as when i pot my foot down it takes a while to build up the revs ?

What engine code was the donor engine that the head came from?

What was the error code for the MAP sensor - it may be the wiring.

the code was aee from a polo 1.6L the code was g71 hope this helps as i am at my wits end now

yes this is the code but i have not got the diagnostic tools and if this may sound dumb but how do i do a tb alignment i have read the link but have no idea where to get into the settings menu in the car ?

  • Author

is it worth me buying a hand scanner of the bay if so whats the most useful ?

You shouldn't have to do a TB alignment as it will self align over a few driving cycles. Get a VAG OBD cable from Ebay & download VCDS lite, it's free.

ok so today had a brake and looked at the compression with a m8`s tester and readings are 140 140 150 155 so to me that's good then i slackened off the dizzy and turned it a bit and boom throttle response was better so turned it more and felt good on pull away but now it is idling erratically turned it back a bit and got power but no change on idle what have i done ?
