Anyone heard of these two (Pro-Tune & Specialist ECU)?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm mulling it over at the mo....

Cutting to the chase, have anyone heard or used either of these two re-mappers?

http://protune-ecu-remapping.co.uk/

These guys come recommeded by a work mate who has used him for his last few Audis (both S4s). As I'm in the North-east, I would have to use their 'we come to you service'...

This one is 'almost' local for me. (Me: North Shields Him: Darlington).

If anyone has any direct experience with either I'd appreciate your views.

Cheers

Bob.

Not heard of either of them mate.

I used a guy in Stokesly, which is almost local to you too.

The local VW Forum VAGCARS raves about him.

Have you got a link (or at least a name I can look up?)

Had a chat over the phone with one of the guys at eclipse performance today (based in Sunderland) They specialise in scoobys mostly, but Skodas were 'no problem'. Seemed pretty helpful- certainly a front runner for me at the mo as I'd prefer to use someone with an actual premises and some history that I can go to in case of problems, rather than a mobile only type service or a 'new startup' business.

There's another garage in Heaton (R&P Woods) who's a REVO dealer that I've heard good things about too. Does a lot of TVR/lambos etc by all accounts.

Things would be a lot easier if Shark set up shop in Newcastle. Hehe!

Sent you a pm

Revo -head office couldn't tell me if they could actually do my car without me visiting one of their agents for a once over.

So bols to them.

Replied. Cheers for the info!

Never heard of either!

Have you tried Andy at Blacksmoke??

Not sure how local he is to you but he has a site. Blacksmoke.co.uk

What car are you mapping?

It's a MK1 Octy vRS (53 plate).

I would be capable of doing a DIY remap as per the blacksmoke site I think (I'm pretty tech savvy), but I would much rather have the piece of mind of having a pro handle it.

My remap will need to have a couple of minor tweaks (pipercross green panel filter and forge DV) that I'm not sure an off-the-shelf map would take into consideration.

All the same cheers for the pointer! For £45 it's tempting if it wasn't my only car. Might bear it in mind when I finally get a project car :)

No worries.

I had an octy vrs mk1 and must admit they are fun.

I must admit i dont know of anyone up that end really, ive heard the name eclipse up that way but if you was to ask who id recommend, i could only really say shark or awesome. They both get good reviews and are helpful. I have had dealings with awesome so i have experience with them, shark must admit i havent but people i know have and speak very highly of them. Downside is they arent local to you.

Oh must say though Andy does put the maps on aswell. He just puts the DIY bit on as he is very open about how to do the job and save people money. Tuners i dare so wont like it so much. Id give him a ring as i am sure he could have one done just for your car. I reckon he would come out and read your ecu and have one done for you if you asked.

Easy to chat to and will say so if he cant.

Aye, if I could afford it (both in terms of money and distance) shark would be my go to place based on all the good reviews I've read about them.

I'm in the planning stage of a remap, as I've only had the car for a month or so and am still working through making sure everything is tip top before I up the power.

I just can't believe there's so few places in or around Newcastle!

Must admit in terms of business opportunity it does sound as if there is an opening for a custom tuner that way .

Im sure something will come up.

Protune claims to be in the business 22yrs and no one has heard of them??Are their tuning methods custom as claimed on their website?

In 2006 I bought a Golf Mk IV TDI 130PD from R&P Woods in Heaton, and subsequently got it REVO'd by them. I would highly recommend them, nice, knowledgeable guys and that map, all things considered, was probably the best remap I've had on a car.

But of course your 1.8T is a very different beast to a PD130, and I just hope that wherever you go, you don't get the terrible boost stutter that I got after remapping my 02 VRS.... 4 weeks into the remap and mine's getting put back to standard tomorrow .... remapped, the car is almost undriveable. :(

But had 4 previous remaps and never had a bit of trouble before, so I was due some bad luck!

Cheers for the feedback Longyear. Yeah, been following your boost surging thread with interest. Thought you'd got it sorted tho?

This is why I want to take it to somewhere that has a premises, rather than a 'we come to you service'.

Was going to give R&P a call and have a chat at some point to see what they can do for the octy. Will update here once I do.

Cheers

Bob.
