Featured Replies

I was driving this evening and everything was fine. i pulled off from traffic lights and all of a sudden i have lost 3rd and 5th gear. 1st is a little awkward but goes in. 2nd and 4 th are fine.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Also check the dog bone think the bushes can go on that causing similar problems. Its the bar connecting the gearbox to the chassis under the car

i had this exact same problem, i haven't checked the dogbone bush however i did do the linkage reset and it sorted my issue although i did everything as per the video and it turned out a knightmare, first gear became reverse which was a real pain to re-find first but i sussed it in the end and it all worked fine.

Thanks for the advice!! i did the linkage reset as on the you tube video and it selects every gear now better than it has ever done!!

i checked the dogbone mount and it is fine.

mine did this yesterday gave me 2nd and that was it! least i could drive home.

Done a reset and its much better altho slightly notchy on reverse and first so going to do it again as its only just out

Mines was notchy so i did the alignmeny and it helped a bit!

But 3rd gear was proper notchy so i replaced the gear oil! Omg what a difference! Silky smooth now and my box only had 69k on it!

Vag guidelines that the gear oil is okay for the life of the car is complete crud! Mines came out black as the night and stunk!!

Waiting for my gear oil to arrive so I can do my oil change. My box is a bit notchy in reverse and 5th so fingers crossed with re alignment as well it should sort this out all though my car has cover 113K now so maybe not lol.

im goig for an oil change too! ever so slight whine in 3rd gear at slow speed
