Columbus GPS problem

Featured Replies

The last week or so my GPS has started playing up. Can take up to 2 hours to acquire satellites and last few days not at all. First appeared once back in Jan so took to dealer but unable to replicate. Just gone back to dealer but unable to get booked in for a another week.

Don't think its a connection problem because when it works it works. The display which shows sats acquired / sats available always shows sats available (usually between 9 and 11) so maybe a head unit or processing problem.

Dealer said a reboot? / plug in to diagnostics normally sorts the problem. Anyone else experienced this?

Additionally re nav disc update, does anyone know whether or not we are entitled to an upgrade as part of our £1500 contribution to the greater Skoda good?

I had something similar on my retro-fitted Columbus and I moved the GPS receiver and I've had no problems since.

It would be slow to lock on (even though it saw 9-11 satellites) or would slowly lose the satellites until it couldn't get a fix update.

I have a magnetic base on my receiver and 'stuck' it on the metal chassis to the passenger side of the stereo (remove the top dash box and you'll see it).

The bar by the air vents wasn't magnetic so it wouldn't stick there.

If yours is factory fitted I can't understand unless the GPS receiver (which I assume is on the roof) is faulty or the connection behind the HU has become loose.

I don't think you are 'entitled' to an upgrade, but a lot of people have asked and been given by the dealer.

I had an issue with my factory fit Columbus where it would not find satellites or take forever to find some, it was a faulty Ariel that caused the issue and was replaced under warranty. Some dealers will update your maps some will charge, I think it's down to the dealers themselves I'm fortunate that my dealer will update my maps free of charge.
