Are dealers kept informed?

Featured Replies

I don't know the difference between a `thread` and a `topic`, so I'll use topic as that's what it says at the top and bottom of these pages.

So often when I start a new topic, I'm told that it is already covered elsewhere! Trouble is I just don't know where to find these `old` topics.

Anyway...my query is, does anyone know for sure whether or not our dealers are kept informed by Skoda with regards to: a) Build dates B) movement thereof and c) build complete date? Or is it up to the dealer to keep asking? It will then, of course, be up to the dealer whether or not he can be bothered to keep the customer informed.

Many thanks.

Obvuously doesn't like b )

In my case I was able to follow the sequence from the dealers computer.

Once the build date week was confirm (code in the top left changed from 10 to 20). Dates for when the car was built then shipped to the port were clearly indicated on the screen. They were at the time when I looked unable to show the ships sailing date though.

Mine was built on the 2nd April, sent to the port on the 3rd and was with me on the 17th. Hope that answer your question.

Fraid not. I'm afraid I don't have access to the dealers computer. So I guess I'll just have to keep waiting not knowing who knows what. But thanks anyway.

Reading your reply again, I think you are saying that, if they choose to, the dealers ARE kept informed. That`s interesting.

My understanding is that the dealer initially works on the basis of the latest newsletter from Skoda, which gives an estimated delivery range for each derivative. This is the estimated week they will quote to you when you visit the showroom. This may be modified slightly by the dealer depending on their experience, their optimism and/or pessimism, and their impression of what you want to hear, and what is needed to get you to place an order.

Once you have placed an order, they enter it onto the Skoda system, and it waits to be allocated a build week. It will in due course be given a build date - I think this is the status 10 referred to earlier. Although this is the estimated build week, it does not 'go firm' until two weeks before the actual build date, which may be earlier or later than the initial date given. Once it goes to a 'firm' production date (again, probably the status 20 above) it should not change. Once the vehicle is built, they allow around a week for the vehicle to get from the factory to the port (Emden, in Germany). Here it is mixed with other VAG product for delivery to the UK, so if there's major pressure from Volkswagen or Audi your vehicle may be a bit delayed. There are ships from Emden to Sheerness, Grimsby, and Newcastle, so your vehicle will be shipped to the UK port designated for your dealer. I believe each UK destination has about two shipments per week. Once in the UK, the delivery company may take up to five working days to get the car to your dealership. In total, the dealer adds 3 weeks on to the production date to give a delivery date to the dealer - then they need time for PDI, registration, and any local fit accessories.

The dealer should be able to tell you the estimated lead time at the time of order placement. He should be able to give you the provisional build date once it appears on the computer system. He should then be able to tell you once it has a confirmed build date. The system also shows the dealer when the car leaves the factory, when it arrives at the port, when it is shipped, when it has been confirmed into UK stock, and when it has been passed to the delivery company. From my experience, dealers seem reluctant to give too much information to customers!

Thank you for a very full and informative response.

The above agrees with my experience. They can look on the system, but they have to choose to do so. They were able to tell me estimated build date, confirmed build date, and today have confirmed the car is at the port of exit waiting to come to Grimsby. My particular dealer doesn't volunteeer this information, but will tell you if you ask.

I simply asked for the info and was given it. Remember that until the last 6-7 weeks the screen info will not change, so when you get to that point in time then keep asking.

To be fair to my dealer (Capitol Skoda, Newport, South Wales) when ever I tured up they would update me before I could ask.

I confirmed my order for a Superb Hatch with a list of extras on 9th May 2012.

Towards the end of May I was given (by Skoda UK Customer Service, after I asked them) a provisional build date of week beginning 13th August 2012.

On the 16th June my dealer emailed to say I had a provisional build date of 9th July 2012.

On 22nd June he emailed again to say that the car was built and being shipped!

He said it was a Yeti but has now confirmed that it is indeed a Superb.

In the meantime 'TrackMySkoda' which this dealer is party to still shows the car as awaiting a build date.

I'm still suspicious that this isn't my car which has been built and being shipped but he's going to phone tomorrow when he gets back in.

In my mind at least, confusion reigns.

As they say "one used to be indecisive but now they are not so sure".

I ordered my Superb a few days before you did and I have no build date yet...so I have my fingers crossed that it is your Superb and not a Yeti.

Finally got a phone call - car is indeed built and is at Emden for shipping.

Now that I've also got the correct 'SLi' I have managed to verify that on 'TrackMySkofa'.

So, ordered week 19, built week 25.

I know this is 'off topic' but in answer to that it appears the dealer was in fact being kept informed.

Jim

Just for the record it's a Superb Elegance Greenline Hatch /Twindoor (manual box as all Greenlines) in Candy White with Park Assist, MDI, Heated Rear Seats, Hill Hold, Auto Dipping Rear Mirror, Tow Bar Prep, Sunset Glass and Wood Decor.
