Hi Looking to buy an Octavia Diesel

Featured Replies

Hello, I presently have a Rover 75 CDT, which has been a good car but things are starting to wear out and maintenance costs escalating.

Having done a lot of research, I have settled on an Octavia. I am looking for a 2006 or 2007 1.9 TDI with about 75k. I have been greatly concerned with the DPF issue on recent diesels, but I think I'm correct in saying that 06 or 56 plate 1.9 TDi dont have them fitted.

Can anyone confirm this? What year did they get DPF's? Did this coincide with the change to Common Rail?

I am looking for the 105 bhp version, since this has a low tax band, and hey we know it can be tweaked up! I'm not really into high performance anyway these days, I look for 1) reliability 2) Comfort 3) economy.

I have been a bit disappointed with the colours available: they all seem to be black, grey or silver.

Can anyone explain the difference between the different trim levels, classic, ambient, elegance.?

None of the 1.9TDI's have a DPF as far as I know. They only put them on the 2.0PD and the 2.0CR's.

The 1.9TDI PD however is bulletproof in the 105bhp guise so you shouldn't go too far wrong.

Trim levels are in that order.....ie S, SE, Luxury and then L&K which is Luxury plus...electric leather seats etc but i am sure someone will be along soon with all the specs for you as i am not too sure having a 2010 model.

Hi and welcome aboard.

Welcome along.

As jrw has said the 105 PD engine is bulletproof, I ran an Octavia Estate for 4.5 years doing 135k, without missing a beat. Reasonably well powered for every day driving.

Specs levels are as you've described - classic, ambiente and elegance (think that was all there then).

Thanks for your replies. Coops have you had any dpf problems with your Superb?

Very few DPF problems on the CR's, apart from the odd sensor. I have done 30k in mine now with no problems.

As jrw says very few problems - I do a good mix of driving, mainly motorway so don't forsee any issues.

I have the 2004 old style Octavia 1.9TDI PD 130BHP Elegance - whilst i do have some starting issues ( but I recently bought it like that and trying to get to bottom of it) its runs like a dream - fast - 6 gears - economical - alloy wheels, electric sun roof, electric mirrors, heated mirrors, reversing sensors, abs, cd multi changer, wide wheels, I think its anti wheel spin control, back support - seats are firm i would add. Love driving the car. Someone mentioned that sensors can be an issue - but bear in mind there is a lot to control. Has onboard computer...on motor way miles does about 60 to gallon at 70mph in 6th. Great torque on the engine.

I too have a Rover 75 (petrol) engine which I am selling - too expensive too repair, lovely ride but running costs is mega bucks - The Octavia road tax is currently £130 per annum - the standard 1.9TDI I think the road tax is £120 per annum. Insurance group is much lower on the Octavia.

You will find the Octavia Elegance much the same over all models. Important to find a car with full service history.

Thanks for all your replies.

Can anyone tell me/list what is the real difference between the classic and the higher spec models? There seem to be a lot of Classic models for sale. I'm not too interested in bells and whistles, but extra comfort seats is a priority.

The classic is the base model which has steel wheels and you will find a lot of them have been used as taxis. I have a 56 plate elegance estate bought it at 3 yrs old with 77k on the clock, one owner ex lease car. Now up to 116k and sweet as a nut, changed from variable to fixed services and other than servicing and a couple of tyres I've not needed to replace anything else. Average mpg is 53/54 with anything from 46 to 65 possible. No dpf thank god, had a nasty experience on a Zafira with one. What out for rattly dual mass flywheel when starting off. Radio reception can be dodgy too. Hope this helps.

i have a 1.9tdi 130 elegance which is supposed to be top of the range (people have their own opinions) all the seat i imagine will be ther same unless you buy the vrs model with leather interior, again dont quote me on that. The seats are quite hard though. The elegance also has all electrics, alloys, climate control etc etc

Thanks for your replies. Firm seats are good! I once hired an E class Mercedes on a ski-ing holiday. The first thing I noticed was the firm seats, but boy were they comfortable.

I may be going to see a 56 plate elegance this afternoon, it has high miles (100k) but is a reasonable price. It is in that nice deep blue metallic paint. I have also spotted an L and K model, but they want a bit more than I can afford. Pity.

L&K seem to be rare and tend to priced a bit high and the spec on those seems to have changed a lot over the years newer having more stuff as standard.

I think it is quite hard to get the details on standard specs as Skoda seemed to changed them very regularly 2+ times a year.

If you don't mind a saloon also look at Superbs around the same age.

water ingress seems the be the big weak point that can be fixed.

1.9 130pd is still good on economy, boot not so practical as the octavia, but space is better in the cabin.
