Fabia ICE queries...

Featured Replies

Just a few questions really regarding the Furby stereo. I have a vRS with the Symphony HU.

1) Does anyone know the part number for the removal tool?

2) Does the Symphony unit have a pre out for an amp?

3) Are there any other units available from VAG cars that have improved SQ/power but retain the OEM look?

4) Can a head unit be mounted in the gap below the stereo? My reason for asking is I'm considering the Pioneer Avic X1 and thought if I swapped the storage tray and HU the display wouldn't block the air vents.

Cheers peeps!

In reply to the removal tool. I'm not sure what the part number is but they are Kenwood keys you need so if you have a mate with a Kenwood HU....

They are a doddle to make. The shape of the actual tool is below (to scale). I used a hacksaw blade with the teeth ground down. You don't need the hole in it and can get away without the notch in the end.

When you have released the catches, the unit is a bit awkward to take out because you can't get your fingers round it. Just prise out the two blanking pieces of plastic each side.

I just went to the skoda garage and asked for the HU removal tool (free) and the little plastic bit that covers the upper part of the HU as the symphoney HU is taller than the normal ones. And just simpily ask for that, and say its only a few quid. There is a similar thing in the catalogue but its like

2) Yes, although it works (I haven't tried), some people have reported blown amps :(

3) I don't think so. The Symphony cd player is probably the better CD HU.

As Mikey said, once you've removed the HU, the cubby hole just slides out, giving you a double-din hole

1) Pop into any local ICE shop - they normally give away Kenwood removal keys. Mine did... twice... but that might have been becasue I did buy a Kenny off them ;)

I just changed my HU a couple of days ago and used nothing other than 2 teaspoons but they required some prising in and out, but worked none the less. And my facia adapter to fill in the space above and below cost
