Vrs knocking noise

Featured Replies

Hi all, I don't really post here much but always trolling through!

So I need some ideas on this, a year ago my 05 vrs started to develop a slight knocking noise mainly on rough ground. So seeing that my car has a 167,000 km's on it I decided I would spend some money on it as things like wheel bearings were gone!

So it had

2 new wishbones with ball joints

2 new Shocks

2 new SKF wheel bearings

2 new drop links

2 new OE anti roll bar bushings

And it still making the knocking, for me it seems to be either on both sides or around the middle, it's quite loud.

Any ideas, could this be the gearbox mount ? Are these a common problem??

Thanks James

Its your track rod ends mate, more than likely. If you dip clutch does it still make noise?

Could also be the inner ends of the track rods connected to the rack, but my money is track rod ends at £20 a pair thats your front end complete

Might be worth checking the centre exhaust mount, when mine went it sounded like it was a front suspension knock

I knew I forgot to write something down it had two new track rods and arms, there was some play in them so I changed them.

If I turn the steering left & right quickly I can hear the knocking!

I will have a look at the exhaust mounting!

strut top mount bearing?

hi guys,, not posted her realy, but experienced knock on my mk1 02 vrs octavia, first time a couple of years ago, got frb bushes replaced, sorted. Then a month or so ago, back it came, so ordered some poly bushes and did it myself, quite easy, followed the instruction on here, two jacks and a socket set, sorted, well almost, still knocking. so got some new drop links, 20min had them fitted, still knocking aaargh. though maybe radiator as they do seem loose, no it was track rod end ! changed track rod end, sorted !

appreciate you seem to have changed a fair bit, just thought I'd post my experience.

best regards

Thanks for the replies, first stop is the exhaust I think see if that's what is knocking, then I think I'll have to look at the mounting for the gearbox and the engine mountings.

I'll let you know next week what I find this weekend!
