Anyone done an ALH 90 Injector upgrade

Featured Replies

Has anyone here done an upgrade on the injectors on the 90hp ALH engine. Mine is a 53 non pd engine

What is involved and will ones from an 03 ASV 110 engine fit straight in?

Well... As an example of the steps involved, there is a guide for changing nozzles themselves in your existing injector body:

There are plenty of more custom nozzles around (Darkside do an H-FLO nozzle kit - they also offer fitting but i'm unsure if that includes pop testing. I would assume so, but it'd be best to ask).

As for swapping OEM nozzles that guide should show you most of the stuff, but as with all things fitting is a bit of a gamble if you're not experienced. May be better to ask someone who knows what they're doing to fit.

ASV nozzles would go in - but the improvement would be average. Personally if I was looking for OEM+ for real power in this case, i'd go searching for some AEL injectors. Genuine .216 nozzles that are good for 140bhp easily. Consider that the stock TDI90 has .184 nozzles (actual size .170) and the ASV 110bhp nozzles are .205's... .216's are where it's at if you're wanting bigger performance. With your stock turbo you can get about 150bhp before it gets too much for it by doing nozzles and general supporting mods such as intake/TIP modding and a decent downpipe.

Note that if you go the nozzle swap route into your existing injectors you will need them to be pop tested which will cost. And if you go the AEL route you _will_ need someone with VCDS to adjust the fuelling.

Just depends how much work you want to put into it really - As much as people mention things are bolt-on, in reality it's never that simple (and if it is, a lot of time it will usually break!)

Note that at some point soon I will be embarking upon this type of procedure, so you can keep an eye out on how I do it and copy as appropriate ;)
