Bad times with the brake caliper :/

Featured Replies

I went off to a conference yesterday in Taunton (1hr48min from me)

The drive was fine all the way up there but on te way home on the A358 near the little chef I heard a thud from the rear wheel. As I came up to the roundabout I applied the brakes and then there was a horrendous grinding sound, almost like the tyre had popped off. So I managed to pull over in to a lay by and there was nothing wrong with the tires.

Then I noticed all the metal filings all over my nearside wheel :/

What had happened was the bolt had come free from the top of the carrier to hub. The carrier was then thrown off by the ABS and straight into the wheel. Lucky enough the bottom one stayed in place.

So today we took it apart and assessed the damage and what had happened is that the previous owner had cross threaded it at some point and over the years water had got behind it and lifted the bolt free.

Now I am in need of a new hub. Where is the best place to buy one?

try eurocarparts and use the discount code for freedom members :)

I've seen them on ebay occasionally, worth a look!

PM Clive (missingmyvrs) I bet he's got a few stashed away lol
