VCDS which one to get?

Featured Replies

I want to get the cable and software but can anyone recommend where to get it? Seen a few on eBay but don't know if they are useless or not. I diddnt really want to go in the hundreds for one though. Any ideas will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Danny.

I bought a fleabay special or < £10, it's as good as useless, setting up the port was a bitch, sometimes the software knows it's connected, sometimes it doesn't and I can only read faults (sometimes), not reset service lights or alter anything. I'm saving up slowly for a gen Ross-Tech one. But that's just my experience, you may be luckier.

I will give the eBay ones a miss then

Buy a proper one, support Ross-Tech. I didn't actually buy mine from them which makes me a bit of a hypocrite, but with hindsight I'd definitely buy the next one direct. Mine cost me £50 vs ~£20 on eBay but it's never once let me down. When I get a new laptop through work once/twice a year, I just download the software, plug in, and I'm away, unlike the eBay copies. Plus I get all the updates and don't have to run an ancient copy.

Very happy Ross-Tech "customer" here, and if I upgrade to a newer platform car it'll be the first mod I buy for it. It's expensive, for sure, but I could have spent £200 on the cable and I've easily saved twice that in fixing my own faults, particularly on my old Leon when the glow plugs were dying. Each time it cost me £8 for a new plug and someone fitted it for nothing, if I went to SEAT then it would have been a £50 diagnostic fee, plus whatever they charge for plugs, plus a minimum block of labour (either half hour or an hour). Plus all the fault code runs and tweaks I've done for mates, that a lot of dealers probably don't even know how to do. A proper diagnostics cable is a great investment :)
