turbo not spooling and system too lean fault

Featured Replies

car has been throwing up a fault every now and then. generic code 'system too lean'. also sometimes when warm it loses power, still pulls but nowhere near like it should and no turbo or induction noise. turning off engine and restarting instantly cures the symptoms.

not sure if the 2 are related as the loss of power is only obvious if i boot it.

car has remap, panel filter, 007p, cat back at the moment.

any ideas would be much appreciated as i dont know where to start really

also the fault code only comes up about once a week after longish joureys

Sounds like its dropping into limp mode. What Boost is it running ???

split hoses

naf turbo

air leaks

maf

throttle body

lambda

map

n75

etc, etc

I would start with something simple like clean the throttle body or unplug the maf and see if it runs the same. check for split hoses under the intake mani or hoses from engine cover, look for oil residue.

not sure what boost its running. quite a lot. what is limp mode like on these? on my tdi it dropped power massively and wouldnt rev up. this car still pulls like a non turbo car, and revs freely.

air leaks

n75

etc, etc

thats what i was afraid of, long list of possibilities, better get under the bonnet then i suppose

Ive got this very same problem and it's more than frustrating. Going to simplify the breather system and remove any unnecessary piping; hopefully in the process I'll find a nasty air leak: other than that it's a case of spending money on new sensors : ( the joys!
