Airbag light on dash after taking passenger seat out

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Would appreciate some help. I drive a Skoda Octavia Elegance 1.9TD, it the recent wet weather my front and rear passenger footwells became flooded with about an inch or so of rainwater. My husband located where the water had been coming in (the water outlet behind the wheel arch skin and become bunged up with leaves and the odd snail) and drained all the water out. We had to remove the lining and the carpet to dry it out and to do this he took the front passenger seat, disconnecting the airbag wiring. Its now all been dried out and put back together but on the dashboard there are two lights displaying, one is a person on a seat and airbag and the other is a steering wheel. Both of which we can not get to to turn off. Has anyone else experienced this and knows how to fix it. Your help would be appreciated as am worried that we've done something wrong and I take our 17mth daughter in this car and want it to be safe. Many thanks in anticipation!!

Welcome Gems,

Did you turn the ignition on with the airbag plug disconnected?

This is the usual reasons for an airbag light, you now need either a dealer or local member with VCDS to turn the light back out.

Hi thank you. yes we did turn the ignition on when it was unplugged. Is it OK to assume that the airbags will work in the unlikely event they are needed and therefore can get the car to a garage at my leisure rather than panic that its safe. Again many thanks in anticipation. Gems

Hi and welcome aboard.

They will work yes, they will just need resetting using vagcom to get the light out.
