Whats wrong with my door lock?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone.

I'm hoping someone has some first hand experience of a puzzling problem I have.

Up to Saturday ive had no problems with my car at all.

On Saturday my Daughter decided to pull the handle on the door which of course opened the door as I didnt have the child locks on (something that never occured to me before). Luckily no real issue we were stuck in traffic and maxidot let me know what was going on instanly. I activated the child locks within seconds.

On to the problem: When we got home I went to open the rear drivers side door to let my Daughter out but the door wouldnt open. Just to be clear I was opening the door from the outside not the inside.

I made sure the doors were unlocked, which they were and tried several more times. The door still did not open. I tried locking and unlocking the car with the key fob and eventually the door unlocked.

No other doors are affected.

It doesnt make any difference if the child locks are on or not. The rear drivers side door does not open, however the problem is intermittent and sometimes the door opens as normal.

A VCDS scan tonight shows no error codes.

1. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

2. Is it just coincidence this problem has occured after activating the child locks?

3. How do I solve the problem?

If anyone has any suggestions I would be grateful to hear them.

Many thanks

I think this is normal, the door lock got confused so needed to be locked and unlocked with key and not the interior button.

It´s like the opposite, locking the car and seeing the lights flashing and the small chirp, but one door is not completely closed. This happened to me as my kid then opened the door to closed and the alarm come on.

Meaning the door was not locked but still enough to activate the alarm.

The problem is the door still wont open sometimes when you have locked the car and then come back to it (doesnt matter how long. Could be strightaway or the next day).

I think it's something to do with the lock mech but dont know how to go about fixing it. You have to press the remote key fob several times before the mech unlocks. Doesnt affect any other lock and as I mentioned it cant be a coincedance that this problem occured after I activated the child locks.

Maybe its slightly out of line or something needs to be tightened up? I guess it's more research and stripping the door down to find out.
