One For the Wheel Experts

Featured Replies

I've got a hankering for some new wheels, the problem is the set that's tempting me most are 9 x 19 ET41.

As I get totally confused with all of this offset stuff, can someone tell me if they will fit, or the likely problems they would cause?

I'm not an expert - you don't need to be, just use the calculator:

OE vRS wheel is 7.5 x 18 et51. Your proposed wheel will be 9mm closer to the suspension strut (not ideal but you'd maybe get away with that) but the wheel will poke out 29mm further out of the arch. That's a lot and is highly likely to cause rubbing on the arch.

Ideal after market size would be something like 8" wide ET45. That gives you the same clearance against the strut as OE and only comes out a further 12mm vs the stock wheel, so the wheel fills the arch a bit more but not too much to give you rubbing issues/concerns.

HTH?

I was more confused with what HTH meant and had to google it!

i have some mercedes wheels, the rears are 9x18 so require a 255 wide tyre, but are fitted with 225 for some stretch, they dont fit without rubbing (although the car is quite low) 19"s will be worse

Thanks for that Rob, that make things nice and clear, looks like those wheels won't work at all. I'll keep looking.

Cheers.
