TDI Suspension

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My L&K PD130 estate is fast approaching 180k, and is starting to get a little bouncy and boat like, although for its original suspension doesn't feel bad at all(although my last car was a 1982 landrover, so what do I know!). The commute is getting to be a strain.

Most talk on here is for the vrs, and what's good for that particular beast, but what's good for the tdi estate driver who likes to get around a fen corner quickly?

I'm not looking for lowering particularly but the thing is probably low anyway on 180k suspension! I live on a back road, down a farm track, past the sign that says 'this way to the middle of nowhere', you get the picture. Too low and my sump would be a goner, my front bumper is already a weird shape at the lip and the engine tray turned into a plough ages ago. To reinforce the picture, my cousin had the farm weld sliders to the underside of his mk4 golf, to stop having to have sump replacements and repairs!

Then we move onto ARB's and RARB's, worth it or not? Can an estate be a go-kart?

Any ideas welcome, I love my car, and I'd rather upgrade/replace parts than replace the car.

Thanks

James

I think standard suspension is more widely available than on the vrs, so keeping the standard ride height should be simple.

Rarb is well worth the investment, not sure about the front arb as yours is a different set up than the vrs

Sent from my Galaxy S2 not a Crapple!

I would go with stock stNdard height springs but uprated stiffer shocks, i believe it improves the road holding no end without sa rificing ground clearance

Thanks for the replies.

So just a better version that the standard then, as I assume coilovers and the like all lower?

Any makes to avoid or makes to big up?

Anyone got a tdi with decent suspension, that wants to list their setup?

I keep seeing JOM around, and the prices are half the normal makes, is this for a reason, or are they actually not bad for the money(i'm assuming can o' worms here!)

Thanks

James

When I had my pd130 Elegance I had a set of KW Sport Springs & Dampers fitted, 30-35mm lowering.

IMO it sat just right afterwards. Living in the Peak District & SWMBO owning a horse meant it went up/down farm tracks and through fields, it did used to scrape but the plastic undertray did a very good job of protecting the sump

The ride was firm but comfortable (thanks to the 16" wheels), I also replaced all the bushes with powerflex at the same time as changing the suspension and it was nice a tight and suprised my brother in his Scooby :giggle:
