Towing Goose neck Tow Ball

Featured Replies

Hi all

First off, I'm very naive about these sorts of things, and would like a little help, although I'm quite prepared to be told that I'm bonkers!

I would like to tow a light trailer behind my Octavia.

When I look underneath the back bumper I have two electrics sockets (I'm assuming one is for lights and one for brakes). I also seem to have a bracket which seems to be ready to fit a goose neck tow ball. This bracket consists of two pieces of parallel metal, probably about 50mm apart (I know, a picture would be nice!)

Can I simply buy a goose neck tow ball and bolt it onto the bracket and then connect the electrics and off I go, or do I need to fit a whole new tow bar.

If any one can help that would be brilliant, and if I can simply buy a tow ball if someone has the part number that would be superb.

Thanks for your help.

Have you checked to see it's not with the spare wheel??

The black socket is the only one you need to use on a trailer. The one with a grey top is for a caravan.

Think you need to post a pic, sounds suspiciously like the bottom of my fixed tow bar

Has each metal bit got 2 bolt holes? And do they hang quite low?

Thats for a fixed towbar, somebody has removed something off that, have a scout round boot it might be in there if not you need to find out what make rest of it is and see if you can buy that bit seperate

That's a bosil I think that's the name fixed tow bar same as mine I'll get a pic later m8

Hi guys

Yep, it looks like I've lost the end! When I bought the car I'm guessing that the tow ball had been removed by the owner so that he didn't keep banging his shins, and maybe he left it in the trailer.

... anyway, can anyone think of a way that I could get a replacement, or am I stuffed and in need of a completely new tow bar!

Many thanks
