Octavia MK1 Drivers Window Loom

Featured Replies

Hi all. Can anyone advise were I can get a Drivers Window Loom for my Octavia MK1. The drivers window doesn't work, neither does the electric window on the same side. I have replaced the window motor as I though that was faulty but a new one does the same thing. I'm keen on replacing the whole loom now as I presume there must be a break in the cables somewhere? Cheers

Could be the switch unit. Do any of the drivers side controls work?

The most likely cause is a broken ground wire (brown) or the power wires (red/brown, red/yellow). Do you have power to the door?

It's common for a break at the point where the wires pass from the 'A' pillar to the door.

Everything else works on the drivers switch unit. All the other 3 windows work from it, the central locking button locks all the doors (although the passenger door pops back up again?). I wondered if it was the switch unit too but with the electric wing mirror not working I kinda ruled that out. I need to get a multi meter on it to see if any power is getting through. What I will say though is on both door control units I have tried there is a very feint clicking npise as though it is trying to do something when I press the button. The window mech is fine though as I have had that out and it moves up and down freely.

It could be the lock unit - bad microswitches are not uncommon. Check you have power on both feeds before you change anything else.

Could the lock unit be causing the window and wing mirror issues? If I put the key in the drivers door lock it just spins around so I need to replace that too but not sure where to start with that

Yes, that can cause a problem. If all was working, holding the key in the lock position will attempt to lock all doors and put up the windows. The door control unit can get very confused.

Might tackle the door lock first then. Is it easier to just buy a new door lock than fix the microswitch?

First of all, you need to remove the lock barrel. Either the flat that turns the lock switch has broken off or by now the switch in the lock is damaged and it's unlikely it can be repaired.

OK. Finally managed to get the lock out. The lock paddle has snapped so when the barrel is turned the paddle doesn't move. I'll order a new one off ebay. I don't think there is an issue with the microswitch as the interior light is working when I open and lock the car. Need to try and get my hands on another loom.

Use a flat blade screwdriver in place of the 'paddle' to check the central locking still works.

Well I'm please to announce I finally have everything working! The door lock paddle had snapped so I got another door lock from the scrap yard and swapped the paddles over and it now works a treat. Was a right pain in the backside trying to get the spring to sit correctly in the barrel but it's working so happy with that. Also whilst I was at the scrap yard I got my hands on another wiring loom, replaced that yesterday and I now have a working drivers door window! On examining the old loom 2 wires had snapped where it passes through the door to the pillar. So happy I persisted with sorting this out! Happy days.

You did well to replace the part of the lock that includes the tang (flat). It's very easy to end up with a handful of bits.
