VRS newbie with a few questions

Featured Replies

1. Had my VRS ( 54 Plate yellow 70000 miles FSSH 2 owners) about a month now, I've serviced it with all new filters, fluids and plugs, got the coil pack recall done, put a BMC panel filter in, got a uprated re-circ dump valve, cleaned all the maf and throttle body with the guide on here and got a stage 1 remap from Shark performance. The only problem I have is that it really suffers from cold with this hesitation that seems to affect a lot of VRS's on here, just wondered what else I can do to cure it?.

2. Just wonderd if there was a tuning guide on here for the Octy MK1 VRS?, as I'd like to start improving other area's on the car, like the brakes, suspension and some of the underbonnet deletes I've read about on here.

I've come from an import 555 Impreza and I'm really happy with the car for it's family duties, but would just like it to be a bit sharper, but without compromising the ' Dad's Taxi ' role

Coolant temp senders can be a problem with the Vrs. They are a duel sender so give one reading to the ecu and another to the gauge, so you can have a correct reading on the gauge and the ecu will have a false one or vice versa.

For suspension the usual route is uprated rarb or a 28mm rear one and a r32 front one. And coil overs.

Is there improvement with just the ARB's?, I like the standard ride height ( I'm getting old and like to get over speedbumps! lol ), and I like the ride comfort, would just like to improve the turn in and body roll

I've just got a rear one on mine and it made a big difference, ie I didn't tell Swmbo and during the first trip in the car she asked me what id done as it handled better lol

What are the options on the RARB, where do I get the 28mm or r32 ones from??

Awesome GTI do a good deal on the Neuspeed 28mm rear anti roll bar.

TPS were the cheapest when I got my R32 (23mm) front anti roll bar. (OEM front bar is 19mm)

Another worthwhile mod to the handling is to replace the front wishbone bushes with superpro poly ones - gives excellent feel without making the ride harsh.

Breather hopes or a leaky boost pipe?

Would this problem still show once the car has warmed up?, as it drives fine after 2-3 minutes of driving, got me confused??

Forgot about that part lol

Breather pipes could possibly affect it, how long in the warm up cycle does it do it for?

Do you still have the secondary air pump setup on the car? If so, this could be the cause as you need to let it warm up for a good 90 seconds until the pump switches off (you can hear it quite clearly)they all run a bit lumpy if you drive off straight after turning the key.

Yes I have, is this one of the deletes I keep reading about?

About 2-3 minutes from start off when cold, then it's fine

Sounds like its just you sai get rid of it lol

I had a 555 classic import ;-)

Is there a clear guide on removal?, quite fancy removing this pump if it's such a pain!!

I had a V2 '555' STI, but had to go for the lit'lun, hence the banana VRS lol

Think there's a few guides on here mate, can't help you more than that as mine is still in. Doesn't really bother me as I always let it warm up before I drive anywhere as its my second car and only gets used when the weather is good.

Your hesitation from cold is 100% the secondary air intake
