4x4 mk2 octavia revs high at motorway speed

Featured Replies

Hi we have a vrs and I assumed this had the shortest ratio gearbox.

Well at 70 it's just over 2500 revs in 6th so civilised

Friends had 1.8Tao 4x4 octy and at the same soured out is doing 1000 more revs in 6th

Is this correct

Dunno if it helps, but the 1.6TDI CR in a 4x4 configuration does approx. 2000 rpm at 65mph in 6th.

Was your Vrs a diesel??

HTC Sensation XE using Tapatalk.

The information under the username suggests it is a petrol vRS.

My diesel PD170 is at 2,000rpm in 6th at 70mph so 500rpm less than the petrol...

Yeah, just noticed that now, sorry. Diesels obviously rev a lot less then petrols.

A petrol vRS does 25mph per '000 revs in 6th,so 70 mph should be nearer 3000 than 2500 rpm.

Hi it's an 06 petrol vrs

I can confirm it's a smudge over 2500 at 70.

What my friend and I do not understand is why the petrol 4x4 is running such high revs at the same speed.

Any petrol 4x4 owners on here

1.8 TSi Scout 4x4 is 2700rpm at 70, and exactly 4000 rpm at 100mph.

No chance a proper 1.8 petrol will need 3500 rpm for 70mph, unless there is something seriously wrong with gearing/gearbox.

Even that is higher than the vrs. Is there a low ratio button.

Any other 4x4 drivers here

My TFSi VRs is 2.6k rpm at 70 and the FSi 4x4 I drive sits at 3.4k. Will update on the diesel 4x4s shortly

Thank you.

Weird why the petrol vrs has longer gearing than the petrol tfsi 4x4.

Both great cars though

Our Scout TSI does about 2750rpm at 70mph.

Is the variance due to speedo error?

That does seem high.

But then again petrols do rev higher anyway so the gearing is normally shorter.

I recently had my gearbox rebuilt and initially they put the wrong gears in (petrol I think) and it did 3100rpm at 70 when normally it would do 1900rpm at 70. Back to normal now. 3000rpm is triple figures now.

2700rpm at a true 70mph for my 2010 Octavia 1.8TSI 4X4 fitted with 17" alloys shod with 225/45 ZR17 tyres.
