Custom FMIC.

Featured Replies

Evening guys,

Basically, i'd like a FMIC as im debating weather or not to go from stage 1 to stage 2. I currently have supporting mods apart from a front mount.

I don't like the idea of splashing out £700+ on a forge kit as its just too expensive for its intended purpose (no matter how good the kit maybe).

So, i'm waiting to make my own setup. Does anyone have and images of the pipework needed so i can track some down.

Im thinking about a cooler along the lines of this...

I've also been looking at the TOYO kit for £230 but to me it looks like its abit, thrown together? Can anyone varify if they are good or not?

Cheers

I brought my car with a toyo front mount fitted. Had no problems with it and last week when on boost the intake temp was about 5 degrees colder than the outside temp according to torque and the dash outside temp

Tried that. They are not offering that discount any longer. Only through group buys can you now get discount.

I have one slightly smaller than that and it works a treat according to the bum dyno,

Also did bam inlet manifold conversion to make piping it up easier and shorter length, ive got pics as i was doing ir ill put a few up when am on laptop and not my phone

That's a bit carp then dude, probably cottoned on to what people were up to.

That'd be good mate. Did you just take the original T/body and swap it round? What did you do with all the piping to it?

Yeah maybe, The chap on the phone was quite helpful tho. Recommended trying to organize a group buy through awesome. Not sure there's even enough interest for me to go ahead and see what awesome can do.

There's a chap in walesby. Alloy racing fabrications (jim) he was gonna make me one up the same size as the forge item but I worked away all the time so didn't get chance before it was sold.

Im using a ths cooler from a 1.8t golf mk4! Works well!

On the rr it never got hotter than 36 degrees!

You need a bigger dp for stage 2 aswell

I already have a 2.5" downpipe/decat fitted to the car mate. Your cooler looks to be a THS one? Not a toyo sports?

I only work down the road from walesby, might give him a call if he's still about.

Yes ths cooler from a mk4 golf gti

Re-read my post! Cost me £350 and was a month old when i bought it

i just opened wiring up and just moved throttle body to other side and taped it all back up again, it was easy

why dont you buy an original cooler from an EVO8-9 from ebay for less than £100 and make sure it is in very good condition? During hot weather in Greece I usually see +12C when outside is >30C, if driving really fast i.e. 120mph I see +8c, I guess if the weather is colder I ll see even lower than that. With the stock one I used to see anything from +45C upwards, I once saw 105C

The one in the picture you posted is not really using the top rows, the basic flow is happening at the bottom and in the middle-ish leaving the top rows with little work to do - therefore wasting space?

Here is mine underneath. We had to cut the bent inlet and outlet and fitted straight ones so that there are no curves in the piping going in and coming out. We did not really change the geometry of the air going in or out either. We had to cut the crash bar a little in the corners of the intercooler, but then I just removed a big chunk as I wanted to utilise 100% of the intercooler.
