Octy 1 1.8t 4x4 fuel gauge problem

Featured Replies

Noticed a problem today, up until now i have been using the fuel left in the tank since i bought the car, it had a displyed just over a half tank, but when i went to fill it up it took nearly £85. It seems to have responded and now displays full.

However i did 90 miles tonight and the needle moved a little but range when i left was 400 miles, when i got back range was 425 miles. earlier today it had 180 miles range but it was obviously empty, but on this occasion it was getting lower as i drove around but obviously not at genuine level.

What could this be??????

Thanks lads and lasses

Sounds like a possible in tank fuel level sensor

The fuel indicator needle is what you need to worry about

The ecu fuel mile left 'calculations' is total carp

Think you need to go back to recording mileage on next full tank and work out from that.

possibly sender or sensor then, its easy to get to.

Yesterday it registered over half a tank but ran out of fuel. So needle is in wrong place. Have given the sensor a good bang and cleaned up the contacts. Lets see if that helps.

Cheers
