Fabia 2 Auto Gearbox

Featured Replies

Hi There, Im new to the Briskoda forum,I own a Fabia 2 1.6 Auto but have recently test driven the Fabia VRS its unbelievable the power and handling are fabulous and it was the best driving experience ive ever had.Needless to say I unfortunately cant afford one so ill have to stick with my 1.6 Auto. Was just wondering what would my car be like if you fitted a VRS gearbox to it has anyone done this?

vRS is not an auto, it's a DSG, yours is a proper auto, completely different. To convert one to the other would be nigh on impossible,

Welcome to the forum.

Getting to around £9500 gets a nice mk2 vRS hatch, over 2 years old ones about at non Skoda Dealerships.

Estates are a good bit more.

For sellers hopefully prices will not go to low too soon,

for buyers the lower the price better obviously.

Dont be put off by tales of High Oil Usage on the engine etc.

If the warranty work has been done or new engine fitted, you should be fine.

Lots of nice cars around and good engines without problems,

peach of a gearbox as well.

Agreed.

Your engine and gearbox are actually based on quite old tech and I think the first hurdle would just be getting the new DSG box mounted onto the current engine.

Then you have all the wiring to install, the controller for the auto box but then I think you would have issues of getting the engine ECU and gearbox to "talk" to each other as your engine and ECu have not been designed for a DSG box.

Totally not worth it if even if it is remotely possible.

Save up and wait till you can afford the vRS or looks for a 1.2 TSI DSG. Same power as your 1.6 but more torque, faster 0-60, faster top speed and a much better gearbox than an old style torque converter auto.

Is the DSG box actually classed as a Manual Box?

That's an interesting discussion. My V5 lists the Leon as an auto. Mostly, you can drive it like an auto, but some people will insist it's a semi-auto, or an automated manual. I'd say the mechanics of it have more in common with a manual synchromesh box than a coneventional (epicyclic) auto, but, in fact, it's not one or the other, really.

It is technically but for the purposes of V5 and insurance etc it's classed as an auto/semi auto as it has no clutch and so can be driven by someone with an auto driving license only.

Phil

Yeah on paper as it has no clutch and changes gear itself it's an auto. Much like the Citigo, that is exactly the same gearbox, with a regular clutch it just has a series of motors that operates the clutch and gearshift instead of yourself.

Hi and welcome aboard.

Hello there Keith and welcome along

Thanks to all for the replys people and the warm welcome, when i took in my Fabia for the test drive the salesman took mine for a short test drive appraising it for a trade in, he said it was a DSG box hes probably wrong though as he told me to shift the car into nuetral every time I stop in traffic or at lights. having read some details on the net this info was a load of tosh as that is not the case, all new technology auto boxes are designed to be left in drive in traffic.

Some people are OK in sitting with their foot on the brakes and shining the Brake lights and high level brake lights at drivers behind them for extended times.

I prefer to follow what the Hghway code says and i shift my DSG to 'N' & apply the hand brake if i need to sit any time.

There is Hill Hold Assist, but i am not prepared to sit on an incline at Road Work traffic lights with HHA kicking in & my foot on the foot brake shining the brake lights at cars, van, HGV's, cyclists or Motor Cyclists.

I dont like it when drivers do it with me behind them..

There are various Threads in the forum on Driving a vRS with DSG.

Wonderful box with loads of ways to used 'D' 'S' Across to manual and shift sticks, or just paddles.

george

He has a point.

Yours is old tech and will continue to provide drive to the wheels when stopped in "D". A DSG box has a proper clutch, well, two of them in fact and will disengage when stopped.
