Stone chip gone down to metal, now rusted

Featured Replies

SWMBOs Fabia has a large (ish) stone chip which has gone down to the metal, which has now rusted.

Obviously can't put paint in on top of the rust - so what should I treat the rust with?

Thanks

Martin

A touch of 'Rust inhibitor'

then the next day very carefully with a large-ish or smallish sawing needle, carefully remove some rust, work like a surgeon.

another little touch of 'Rust inhibitor, after reaction is done,

'touch up' using a needle or '****tail stick' to drop a small amount of touch up paint, well mixed/shaken.

maybe another little touch an hour later.

A day or so later give a little 'TCut/compound' to smooth. not a huge area, end of the finger and a damp cloth with T-Cut.

(cocktail stick is a thing you put in a drink with an olive on) lol not. ??why did it type this time?

Or do a proper job, comes out much the same.

Just attempting this myself.

Should you tcut before or after applying the clear coat?

Also, can the clear coat be applied with a stick or should i use the brush?

If you are bothering with a clear coat (not all of touch up paints need it) then polishing to blend is usually the last stage. Some touch up kits like Halfrauds come with a fibreglass stick which works out quite nicely for removing rust before applying inhibitor.
