Similar problem with my 02 reg Mk 1 put in the car reverse I got the long your about to crash tone even if nothing behind. I have a tow bar fitted and it transpired the sensors were picking up the scuff plate which protects the bumper if your hooking up a heavy trailer, as I only tow a bike trailer which is lightweight I droped the hitch and removed the plate that solved my problem it all works as it should. Naturaly I didnt find this out untill I had bought a new sensor from V.A.G. at eighty quid. Hey ho lol.

Have you tried tuning a couple of your sensors around so they would miss your tow hook? Did that with my sensors without any problems, still picks up stuff behind me lol
