HU won't fit properly?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I recently purchased an Alpine 9855R and tried fitting it in my furby but it just doesn't seem to wanna clip in. I've pushed it as hard as possible and as far back as possible but it won't stay. The unit has a fair bit of excess cabling behind it which I think is what's stopping it fitting in but I've tried feeding it down the back in the gaps but no joy. I had a look at removing the glovebox but couldn't get it out and had a brief look and couldn't see room to get in behind the unit. This unit also comes with a stabilising plug which is supposed to fit in the support bracket but I think the ISO cables are obstructing it which is causing my fitting problem. Any ideas what's the best plan of action.

While I'm talking about my HU I have to say for the money it is one amazing piece of kit and the whole sound of my standard speakers has changed dramatically. Also with the assistance of time correction I've managed to sort out the one sided sound stage that I was getting with the symphony and now to me the sound is right in the center of my dash where it should be. Highly recommend this unit to anyone. One last thing the biolite screen is absolutely beautiful and choice of 512 colours for the button illumination makes matching the instrument panel perfect.

Thanks in advance for your help.

the glove box will come out mate, not too sure on the fabia but on the octavia its simply 3 T20's on the bottom and 2 on the top(behind the actual door) and you need to have the door open to get it out. sure one of the fabia boys will come and show you the way, definitly sounds like the cables bunching up at the back, can be a real pain when this happens. i have quite a lot in my dash so i have to remove the glove box to be able to do it

My bro's got an Octavia and it was easy as like you said the glovebox come straight out but mine seems to be bigger or more to it. I think it's to do with A/C pipe but when I looked down the side there was supports of some sort in the way of the HU area so couldn't get my hand down. I'll await a fellow furby owner.

Cheers

change your rca cables, i have a alpine unit and i had to get a y splitter, its a 8" long bit of cable that is really ment to turn 1 rca outputs into 2, but i snipped off the second one so its 1 to 1 these have smaller ends then my high grade rca leads now the unit fits fine.... JUST

Having had the glovebox out of my Fabia (trying to find a Road Angel cable route rather than ICE replacement) I can't recall that that would help at all.

I subsequently took the standard ICE out and had a lot of trouble getting it back in - the cables seem to have to lie in a very particular way.

ok simple thing it could be....have you made sure that the pins that hold the stereo in are pushed inwards?

You should be able to get to the back of the HU by taking the glove box out. The guy who fitted my ICE did. I think he disconnected the A/C pipe and light wire though when he unscrewed the glove box.

Yeah, as mentioned above, removing the glove box and climate control module is the easiest way of getting behind the head unit. No need to cut any parts behind the dash or anything.
