Wheels

Featured Replies

Hi folks, I'm not a regular poster but I read up when I need advice.

Anyway, I have had some new wheels, 17x8 Calibre Vintage Black but I'm having trouble getting them to fit over the calipers. I had them from rimstyle, and they have also sent me some 5mm shims/spacers but they still don't fit. The guys at rimstyle are a bit bemused by this as they say they should fit and have had these wheels fit on other mk1 vrs'. I think 8mm spacers will do the trick, has anyone else had similar problems? And how did you get round it? Im also worried that with an 8mm spacer the wheels haven't got much of the hub to sit on. Advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Try a 10mm hubcentric spacer then. They are more expensive but will solve your problem of the wheel not resting on enough of the hub.

Thanks for the reply, never used anything other than a generic spacer before but I've had a look on the net and I think they may do the trick

The hub centric ones that is

Hub centric spacers mate, forge do 12mm, Eibach and H&R simulate. You'll also have to buy some 50mm M14x1.5 bolts and make sure your tyre size will work. If your running 225/45/17's you may find yourself having to go 215/40 or 205/45/17! Simply to stop the arch catchin as I'd memory serves me right these wheels are an ET32 - add a 10mm spacer and your running an ET22 I reckon that'll start to catch on a lowered VRS (again I'm assuming it's lowered or will be to pull this style of wheel off)

Rimstyle should be able to offer you a deal on the spacers and longer bolts and maybe also the tyres if they need changing - give Toby a shout; sound fella that will see you right.

Thats **** why dont you send the wheels back and get another set with a more suitable et....

If your wheels are say et45 you want some that are et35 (stick 10mm farther out)

Spacers are ****

Agreed.

Spacers are crap and personally shouldnt be used. Ive used universal ones. Tpi. Creation motorsport and eibach ones and all give me wobble over 60 mph also make the car feel crap.

Just get some wheels that will fit. Et38 is the std vrs rims. Most am 18x8 rims are et 35. Et 32 will fit ne probs. Anything less will start to stick out more and catch the arches.

My opinion anyway

Thanks for the info and opinions. I'm going to try the spacers and see how it goes, rimstyle are sending them and longer bolts for free. The rims are et35.

I just worry about the arches now as I have its slammed all round. I'll give it a go but send the wheels back if I'm not happy as they advised me they would fit

if the rims are et35 then you add 10mm spacers they will become et 25 and will most likely rub.

et35 should fit ne probs.
