What is wrong with my electric window?

Featured Replies

Hi All

My near side rear window doesn't work.

When I press the switch on either the drivers door control or the back door control there is a double click but the window doesn't shift. I assume this means that power is getting to the motor?

I have taken off the door panel and can hear that the click definitely comes from the motor.

I bought a second hand regulator complete with motor from a breakers and tried connecting the cable to the new motor, but I get the same double click without any movement.

Any ideas what else could be wrong?

Thanks

If you're really lucky, it could just be the window stuck to the seal. Try running a piece of plastic between the glass and the seal

It might be a bad connection to the door. If the loom has a break in it somewhere, voltage may be present, but will disappear as soon as you try to draw a current.

Thanks, I'll try both those options. Be nice if it is the seal sticking, but unfortunately, I think it has to be something to do with the electrics as when I connected the new motor/regulator, the same double click happened when using either switches.

Any advice on the best way to test whether there is a break in the loom?

Thanks again

Sounds like it.

Use a multimeter across 2 points on the same wire between an electrical run and test it for continuity. If it has no continuity the wire has a break in it.. It is probably easy to solder an overlay section in than to trace broken wires back through the system.
