Accelerator pedal tapping noise

Featured Replies

Hi all, picked up my Superb2 on Wednesday and loving it, only gripe I've got is when I take my foot of the accelerator pedal to change gear as it gets to the top it makes what sounds like a cheap plastic tapping sound, I can only imagine this is when its at the top stops, had a look at the accelerator pedal which does look like a bit of cheap plastic but can't see what could be making the noise, anyone else had this problem, is it just a "characteristic" of this type of pedal or is there something I can do to muffle the noise?

Cheers all

Check there is no stones or grit trapped in the bottom pivot.

Thanks Tech1e, I had a poke around the back of the pivot but can't see how you can get properly behind it, to be honest sounds more like when the pedal is at the top and hitting what ever stops it coming up to far.

There is overdrive swith under acc pedal - you may not notice swithing it on when pressing pedal to it's limit, but release sound (for some reason) is more noticeable for you.

If it's not stones and alike, you may want to ask your dealer to replace the overdrive switch. By the way - try it on the parking - pressing and releasing.

I've had mine for 2 years / 40,000 miles and periodically notice the same thing. I think it's probably always been there but I only notice it at certain times (like when the radio's off) - I agree with ste2000 it does sound a bit like a switch releasing as I can't feel any slack when I release the pedal.

I think I agree with you on this, only noticed it myself when the radio was off, nothing feels untoward with the pedal, doesnt feel like it sticking then popping up the rest, just think its a normal plastic hitting plastic sound when the pedal comes back up, also realised I have been used to an old Superb1 with the hanging pedal so only had to use the end of my foot with that, have been driving this the same but noticed if I put my whole foot on the pedal then the noise disappears so I think now its how you use the pedal makes a difference.

Cheers.
